Using sailor weapons to prevent bugging is a thing, but the effects are so minimal. The bonuses give you about a 0.1% out of 100% of an advantage.

For any loadout with pistol, one tool you have access to that you need to abuse more than the other loadouts is the ability to continue smoothly maneuvering away from opponents when you have the pistol equipped. The blunderbuss drops off in effectiveness at longer ranges, and the sniper is extremely difficult to use smoothly while maneuvering.
