this is the kind of song you listen to before getting pulled over by the police because your windshield is broken but you still argue with the officer and end up getting pepper sprayed.

Breaking Bad, Bojack Horseman, or GTA, we can all agree this song is amazing.

I'm preparing to perform this song for a dying friend. It was one of the very first songs I learned to sing and play guitar with. He introduced the song to me a little over fifty years ago, and I could never get it out of my head after that. I'm giving it back to him for the trip home. May this simple gift carry you there. Travel well, my dear friend, George Martinez.
  • Crazy to think they got the entire country to work on this song

In 1972 I dropped out of college, parked my Mach 1 Mustang and hitchhiked across the US. I was hoping to get to Oregon, but it was February - March and the weather stopped me. Spent a couple of week camped in the desert outside Tucson. When I got my first ride back to Miami, the tune on the radio was - A Horse With No Name

Lyrics On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot, and the ground was dry But the air was full of sound I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After two days in the desert sun My skin began to turn red After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was dead You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After nine days, I let the horse run free 'Cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with it's life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la

I played this while driving across West Texas in El Paso. Sand everywhere, bright sunny sky, mountains in the distance, and a strong gust. What a memory.

Today is the day of me being sober for a few weeks.. so I decided to go to a cafe and buy a coffee whilst writing about life in this journal. Whilst listening to this absolute master class. It relates to my soberity. If anyone sees this comment and is trying to become sober you got this!
  • This is a highway song. You listen to this while you're driving across the Great West, in Canada or the States. Brings back memories of driving across the country with my Dad and siblings in the 90's.
