Beekeeping boils down to how quickly your bees can draw out their foundation to make fully drawn frames. The faster they can draw out the comb, the sooner they can store resources and raise brood. Today, I've found some foundation that is...well take a look.

I bet those drone cells were there because they over waxed it a bit, so the bees didn't have the plastic foundation to guide them when they were drawing it out. Seems worth it if they get drawn out that well.
  • Thats very impressive to draw out 6 new frames like that in 6 days. I heard for a while that Acorn frames are great frames, but I dont have any experience with them. Great video David
  • I’ve been using Acorn Foundation since 2018 and love them. I do order the heavy wax version. Highly recommended

I live in Ireland and a brand new beekeeper and I just want to say I’m really enjoying your videos!! I’m stuck to them! 😂

Hey David !! I’ve heard about those Acorn frames on a different channel recently. The beekeeper has been using them for years and highly recommended them . I checked out their web site last week because I needed some medium frames to add supers to my hives . I ended up brushing wax on new frames that I purchased at a local bees supply store because I was somewhat in a rush and it’s worked out pretty good so far. But I will certainly think of that company in the future when I can plan ahead… I leave in south Florida and things. Are a little different here but I still follow you. Lots of your content is still very helpful !! Thanks for your videos and your channel .
  • I have used black Acorn double waxed frames since 2013. Bees draw them out with no problems and the frames extract very well too. (Acorn also makes white plastic foundation frames but the eggs are very difficult to see in them.)

I have 90% Acorn foundation in my deeps and my supers. My bees seem to love them! I love the smell of opening a pack of their foundations. I would use them as air freshener! I will say the fresher the better. I had to roll on extra wax in the undrawn foundation from last year to bait them to start combing them faster.
  • @jayglosser2014
David, your bees have been busy! Day #4 of nice weather, cool 78 degrees today, expecting 80+ for the next 6 days. 😎👍
  • @mse1333
I’ve used acorn triple waxed, they work great!
  • @e.l.1303
Very interesting. I might check them out and get a few to see if it makes a difference with finicky bees who refuse to complete drawing out some frames or are slowwwww to start drawing out a new box of frames.
  • @hannasbees
Love that!! Makes me want to buy them. Are they doubled waxed frames?
  • @markbee5787
    Acorn foundation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • @JamesCrouchX
The drone, odd, large, malformed cells can be from cells being repeatedly sipped out while forming. I have seen this from beetles.
  • @johnlawler3353
I’ve got close to 2,000 frames with Acorn foundation and they’ve been great.
  • I use Acorn, 5 years now. love them. 100 Hives, 100% for honey frames , slowly working them in as brood frames. I always go with the heaviest wax they offer. I do know that people that live in areas where they have to deal with SHB, have a concern that the way The Acorn Frame is designed, there are nooks for SHB to hide. In Southern Arizona, SHB is not an issue.
  • I did an experiment this year using Acorn and Mann Lake frames. During a flow there was basically no difference in the amount of comb drawn on each of them. Now that the flow is pretty much over I will do the experiment again.
  • @framcesmoore
Ha David You have a good queen there and a nice flow. My bees are not drawing it that quick no flow now and I am feeding. I got my frames from hillco. double waxed great frames recieved them quick and they are now on sale. I have used acon as well and they did good with it as well. but mine was black compleat plastic. and I did not like them they break so easy and bend I do not use them any more the wood frames is the best.
