The Real Feel sound soggy to me. No pad feels like a drum and it's not supposed to. It's there to develop articulation. For that purpose, the DIY sounds better.

Evans Real Feel is damper, lower which I prefer. The sound seems to depend on the type of wood or wood derivative base. IMHO a solid wood seems to produce a higher sound.
