đź‘‘ Being raised by a MOTHER WITH A DISABILITY changes you. That's the story of James Wolf, son of Jay and Katherine Wolf, on today's Cakes & Conversations. James was born in 2007 and just six months later, Katherine miraculously survived a CATASTROPHIC STROKE caused by a congenital brain defect she never knew she had. After a sixteen-hour brain surgery, forty days in the ICU, a year in neuro rehab, and eleven operations, she continues her recovery to this day.

Though only 13 years old, James shares deep wisdom about the value of asking for help, honoring your parents, and treating everyone as a human. He also shares about 13-year-old romance, showcases his dance moves, creates a CALIFORNIA SUNSET CAKE, and at one point takes over the kitchen hosting his own cooking show.

Since 2008, the Wolfs have been disrupting the myth that joy can only be found in a pain-free life through speaking events, their best-selling books HOPE HEALS and SUFFER STRONG, a thriving online community, and Hope Heals Camp for families affected by disability.

Hope Heals Camp is a week-long camp experience and year-round community offering rest, resources, and relationships to families experiencing disability. This year, campers from 35 states and representing 33 diagnoses experienced an incredible week together.

James, You may be young, but you have the wisdom and insight of a person much older. You did an incredible sharing, deep with meaning, and lightened with the delight of making rice crispie yummies. May God bless you in every life step you take. Jesus shines through you.

I've had the privilege to serve at Hope Heals Camp in 2019 and this year (2021). It was amazing to hear from James and his wise words! Great job James!

James - Can a 13 year old be an inspiration to a 73 year old? You betcha and that is exactly what you are to me. My prayer is that I live long enough to see the plans God has for you unfold. I know that you will find the perfect way to serve your Lord whether it is as a Christian leader/pastor, a therapist, a counselor or all rolled up together. You are one awesome young man with whom I am honored to have had our paths cross. Good luck this year's cross country season. Love you (Mr. "Popsicle Bob")
  • James you are a fine young Godly man who has clearly been raised by loving faithful parents who live in faith and trust in God. You are and will serve God and others with your life.
