Over the last few years eating meat has increasingly been associated with health risks, like heart disease, cancer and an early death. How unhealthy is meat really?

I think it's important to emphasize that when they say meat increases your risk for some disease by 19%, that doesn't mean if your current risk was 1%, it's now 20%. It's 1.19%. When people hear that statement, "increases by 19%", they think (MyCurrentRisk)+19. Not (MyCurrentRisk)*1.19... which is what they should be thinking. Relative risk is a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people.
  • Both of my grandparents are 80 + years old and they both have eaten meat on a daily basis their whole life. Neither of them suffer from any of the diseases mentioned in the video. However they both consumed organic products 99% of the time, some of the food was produced in their farms free from pesticides or chemicals and the meat they consumed was from cage free hormone free chickens, goats, and cows fed organically. I guess food quality as well as lifestyle and genes play an important role in how long we will live. (Dr Sten Ekberg also mentions the importance of organic feeding in the cattle's beef quality in his video Top 100+ Healthy Foods You Must Eat)
  • This channel and the team behind it; you really know the ideal way to use the world wide web so effectively and as intended. To share knowledge. Thank you Kerzgesagt!

"Dairy products deserve a video of their own" that sounds... ominous
  • ever since I had my first period I suffered from Iron deficiency and I've used iron pills for years. I've tried being vegetarian but it didn't work when I lived in Turkey cause the nutritional products that I had to buy were really expensive. I've been living in Germany for 6 months now and I can't say that I'm a vegetarian but I have a plant based diet 95% of the time. When I travelled to Turkey after 4.5 months of being in Germany, I had a blood test done to see if I lack iron. Turns out my iron has risen like never before and I feel completely healthy and not bloated or uncomfortable because of trying to digest the meat.

I saw this video 2 years ago and since then I have cut processed meats like salami, hotdogs and the like from my diet to basically maybe one serving every couple of months. And I know it wasn’t exclusively that which has made me feel healthier nowadays, but I will say with confidence that it was a catalyst for making better health decisions further down the line

"This sounds alarming, but before we panic, let's look at how the studies were conducted..." every nutrition science article should be followed by this
  • I've been vegeterian for the past 4+ years(I still eat fish every once in a while) and honestly I feel pretty normal. But the fact is even before I went full on, I didn't like meat at all(which in my country is considered very weird) so it wasn't that hard for me to switch. But I think it really depends on your taste, habits, surroundings and sime other factors whether you will consume a lot of meat. And honestly, I don't judge people who eat meat, because as Kurzgesagt pointed out, it has its health benefits. Heck, even within my own family there are people on both sides and we still sit down and eat on the same table. I just wish non-vegeterians would treat me the same way too and I stop recieving weird looks when I tell other people I don't eat meat, because it's really annoying.

Wow the cartoon that shows the cow getting sick, pig as piglet factory and chickens being crazy in cages was on point
  • @TheSwindle123
As a relatively healthy individual whose diet has primarily been processed meats for the past few years, I think now might be a good time to preserve my health and switch to something healthier. It won’t be easy but I’ll surely feel better for it in the long run.

  • Being an Indian and a part of rich Hindu culture, I'm proud to be a vegetarian and I don't enjoy dead bodies of innocent dead animals.
