John Oliver is the Peabody Award–winning host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a show that's won more than two dozen Emmys since premiering in 2014. Catch new episodes Sunday nights on HBO at 11:00 ET, with past episodes canonized rather conveniently right here on YouTube. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as the former Daily Show correspondent discusses the problems with cable news, his love for the Muppets, and his iconic (in his own mind) free kick in Soweto.

Cool John Oliver story. I met him at JFK airport. Told him I really liked his work. He seemed to genuinely appreciate it and said "Oh cheers thank you". Shook his hand and went on my way. Turns out we were on the same flight to the Bahamas. As I walked past him and his family on the plane he recognized me, smiled and waved. Thought that was so cool. I didn't want to come across as a weird fan so I was not planning on saying anything to him again. But at the baggage claim he went out of his way to tell me and my girlfriend "have a great trip guys!". Such a class act and completely down to earth. I don't agree with all his stances but will be a life-long fan anyways.

"This is my Vietnam. I shouldn't have got into this and I've got no good way out." Absolutely sent me.
  • I adore John. I also can’t get over how British he took this whole thing. He stayed composed with understatements like “I didn’t like that” while tears are coming out of his eyes. Incredible.

“Policies are much more important than politicions” Wow, so well said👏
  • @humblebeat
“The problem is the loudest journalism in America is generally saying the least.” Sad but true.

(Tears running down his face) "i love- i love- ....i love puppets, Shaun."
  • @captbruce
"The science hasn't caught up to what you're doing to your body" is the line that killed me. I love John; one of the best episodes ever.

Telling Sean he's got the stomach version of CTE is the funniest reaction I've ever seen to Da Bomb
  • @WiFiRy
I can confirm, Crowe's jockstrap is alive and well at Blockbuster in Bend
  • @IamTheMonkeyMan
This is one of the last people I’d expect on Hot Ones. I’m all for it

John is so delirious at the end that he just claps along when the crew applauds him.
  • "John, don't wipe your eyes with that. It's going to get in your eyes" Immediately rubs napkin all in eyes XD
  • LOL at "This feels like my Vietnam - I shouldn't have gotten into this, and I've got no good way out."
  • @discostoo
"That was.....hotter than I wanted the first one to be.." Killed me. Love the funny brits.

John is not a hugger. That he got up and gave him a hug says a lot about this experience. 🤣
  • "Even as you're waiting for major change that you think might not come, incremental change is possible and valuable." Thank you, John. I really needed to hear that today. Also I love your work!

“It’s a monkey in a top hat, which I do like” John Oliver kills me 😂
  • @StrongButAwkward
Da Bomb needs to put John's review of it on their bottle from now on IMO. "An objectionable thing for humanity to do. It's not the worst thing we've ever done, but it's part of our worst instincts."

Why am I crying?! He’s such a beautiful soul. Both of them seem to be. I love how John Oliver is able to appreciate the beauty in little things
