Key insights
🎸 Finger coordination exercises are a great way to warm up and improve dexterity. Start with simple exercises and progress to more challenging ones.
🎸 Stretching exercises help improve flexibility and reach in the fretting hand. Pay attention to how you hold the guitar to maximize the benefits.

  • My pinky is my biggest problem so far. It naturally curls in more than most folk I’ve noticed and I find it does hinder me.
  • I practice while watching hockey games. I just take a chord progression and do it over and over as I watch the game. Good thing I live alone or I would drive anyone else crazy lol.
  • @Jack.Waters
I went from not knowing the string names to publishing 2 songs in 4 years doing things like this in front of TV. Many many hours of just finger picking patterns. Long slides. etc. Foundations are so important.

Great advice there, Andy (why couldn't you tell me this 25 / 30 years ago, my friend?)
  • Great Tips, look forward to part two of “More ways to practice your guitar while watching Netflix (or any other pay per view)” on using the circle of fifths clockwise for beginners to practice e.g. Cat Stevens “Wild world” or the Beatles “Here comes the sun”
  • @robsmith6281
I actually sound better when I'm playing silent lol.
  • Definitely don’t slouch! You have to reprogram your body and playing eventually!! Begin practice sitting up!

More expense! Haven’t owned a TV for over 30 yrs! Is it essential? 🤣
