Most people are invaluable at protecting themselves and their colleagues against cyber threats from emails, websites and social media, but this may be beginning to change as we introduce smarter devices and artificial intelligence to our lives. Developing machine-learning based technologies related to the next generation of cyber-physical security threats, George is leading the research centre for Internet of Things and Security.

He is currently a partner or coordinator in 8 research projects funded by RCUK and the European Commission. Currently he is the project coordinator of the EPSRC CHAI project on cyber hygiene for AI systems in domestic life, and of the Euro H2020 EUNOMIA project on information trustworthiness in social media. Previously, he was University of Greenwich, Principal investigator for the EPSRC CHIST-ERA COCOON project, coordinating work in emotion-aware cyber threat detection in smart homes.

His 2015 book on cyber-physical attacks has been adopted in the curricula of universities internationally and was included in ACM’s top 10 of computing Milieux books and articles published that year. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

  • Good to hear your voice and refresh my memory on threats we face from IoT, Dr Loukas.
  • Thank you so much for the brilliant talk Dr. Loukas. It made me smile all throughout. It's brilliant. I'm an assistant professor at an Indian University pursuing PhD in the area of cybersecurity. Is it possible to conduct a similar study here that I can initiate? I would appreciate your support, if you ever read this - share your email address. Will connect. Till then, kudos. I can't imagine how amazing it'd be to have a teacher like you. The humility, grace, brilliance along with hope radiated throughout. Thank you again.
  • Thanks for thinking of us. I thought that thinking of the end user never entered the mind of engineers. I hope this is an idea whose time has come. Actually I hope the many, many ideas you offer are implemented sooner than later. Later may be too late.
