That's a great explanation of an old southern recipe. We live in Texas and it is most often too hot to use the oven to make cornbread, we want it too often. These corncakes go with everything, beans, stew, greens, etc. You are the first person I found that even tried to tell how much water to use. We never measure anything, just depends on how much you want. My Mama had a teakettle on the stove and we just scoop up some meal and pour the hot water on it until it was right. There is no better cornbread in the world than this. Thank you so much for helping keep this recipe going. Cheers

Great job! 👍🏽 this looks delicious! I can eat good hot water cornbread all by itself! My great grandmother made hers perfect every time. Great balanced flavors; Nice & crispy on the inside coated with creamy quality butter 🧈 and it was magically soft on the inside. That just takes me back to her antique stove. It was bright white, clean, shiny and pristine condition.
