Alright guys, our ‘06 MINI Cooper S started making a horrible noise. We've been driving it pretty regulalrly and haven't really had any issues. The noise made the car sound like a diesel, but a dying one. It was rough. This video shows you how to change the Timing Chain Tensioner. There's more to do and more to come!     How many miles on the car? And when do you typically change the oil? I was reading an article saying that the manual says you can go 15k miles before an oil change, but such stress is likely a big reason the tensioner gets worn so often on (older) MINIs.

    Not a Mini Owner, but, looking to buy one and am overwhelmed with the info. Just curious how swapping out the tensioner helps when the timing chain could be past it's 70mm or so of deflection? Again, don't own one of these cars, hiding trying to understand what I'm getting into, maintenance wise. Thanks!
  • You’re supposed to uncollapse the tensioner from the chain guide opening after putting it in.
  • Are there different size tensioners? Or is this one size? Just started getting that diesel rattle, in my 06 cooper S. I figure this could work until I get all the tools to replace the chain kit.
