This is a Motromouth couple car review of the new Kia Sportage hybrid compact SUV. The Sportage hybrid has a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, but FWD and AWD options are available in the US. For $35,995 CAD this is what you get on the base model, a 12.3” touchscreen with navigation, 4.2” driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a power driver seat, heated steering wheel, key-less entry and 17” wheels. The base trim also comes with blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert, advanced forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane follow assist and rear parking sensors. We have the top SX trim in Gravity Grey with a red leather interior for $42,695 CAD. It has features like ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a smart power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, 12.3” digital driver display, driver seat memory, a power passenger seat, the Harman Kardon sound system and 18” wheels. In the US, there are three trims, the base model for $27,290 USD is standard FWD, AWD is available for $1,800 USD. This trim comes with an 8” touchscreen, a 12.3” driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated front seats and a tire repair kit. The middle EX trim for $30,990 USD comes with a 12.3” touchscreen, a heated steering wheel, a power driver seat, wireless charger, blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert and a temporary spare tire. Add the EX Premium package for $1,500 USD to get the panoramic sunroof and smart power tailgate. The top SX Prestige for $36,190 USD has similar features we have on the Canadian top trim. Fuel economy is excellent, 6.1L/100 km, 38 MPG city and 6.3L/100 km, 38 MPG highway. The Sportage hybrid AWD has 8.3” of ground clearance and the FWD model in the US 7.1”. This hybrid can tow 2,000 pounds.

I appreciate Zack's consistent acknowledgement that not every buyer out there has CAD$40,000 to purchase a new vehicle. It's nuts to me how often that number seems to be thrown out there as the starting point of any vehicle.

The Korean twins are absolutely nailing this segment. This Sportage is a bit too ‘Sporty’ looking for my taste, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Hey I grew up in Michigan and I love Andrea's pronunciations! Don't change, and give Zach a poke in the ribs. My local Hyundai dealer does a lifetime powertrain warrantee. I think the Kia is a better looking vehicle inside and out but it's hard to pass up the lifetime warrantee available on the Tucson.
