i still marvel at the brilliance of bungie leaving their deal with microsoft because they didn't want to be the "halo company" for another ten years only to jump into a deal with activision to be the "destiny company" for ten years

Am I the only one that heard Marathon was a multiplayer game with no mention of campaign and lost all hype?
  • @Idle1996
Weird how no point do y'all say that Destiny 2 removed so much paid content that the people who bought the original game can't even play it anymore

Slight error that needs clarification. Arrowhead has stated that Bungie had no part in any way in the creation of Helldivers 2.
  • @ombrevance
Bungie had this coming. Especially for vaulting content we paid for.

Game developers used to be rockstars. They did things that were crazy and they didn’t need permission. They had passion. We hit the peak in the 360/PS3 era imo and it’s been downhill since.

These game companies big ups are out of control😢 i just want the good times again.

To this day, I still believe one of the best live service franchises we've gotten in the last 10 years is Splatoon. First off, there's no microtransactions at all. You earn in game coin and buy stuff using that. Second, all updates are free, including new maps, reworked maps, cosmetics/gear, and weapons. Third, Splatoon 3's battle pass is completely free. All you've got to do is play the game and you'll earn experience, which gets you money, gear, emotes, etc. Forth, the only things that you have to pay for are big DLC items, like Splatoon 2's Octo expansion or Splatoon 3's expansion pass that includes returning hubs and a new singleplayer mode. Imo, if more live service games worked like this, they probably wouldn't have as much ire behind them as they do now.

Bungie isn’t all that and they never where Scott was looking at them with rose tinted glasses. What made halo a hit was Microsoft and the original X-box team that kept bungie focused on the tasks they need to complete, and once they left Microsoft and didn’t have the oversite, they started to fall apart, and destiny was sold on nostalgia and name recognition, and the reason destiny succeeded was because of the die hard bungie fan boys and girls who would follow them off a cliff.
  • I have no problem with the concept of a live service game. The problem comes when the live service/MTX come first, second, and third in consideration and gameplay, lore, and depth come fourth and beyond. Game companies have forgotten the basic concept of make a good game and success will follow.

So I have a lot of problems with Bungie but I think it's completely disingenuous to say they don't know what they are doing when it comes to live services. Look at how many live services come out every year then shut down anywhere between 6 to 18 months later. Yet Bungie has been able to maintain Destiny for 10 years. They have expertise in the field and anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves. Are they perfect? Hell no. In fact I'd argue they have gotten arrogant which is leading to their current state but that arrogance originates from success.

Bungie after releasing the final shape vidoc: “Allow us to reintroduce ourselves”

I wonder when and why Bungie became the Live Service expert to be giving advice to Sony? When they were Activision, they had Blizzard consultants telling them how to fix the Live Service issues with Destiny... they had to scrap it and go back to the drawing board for Destiny 2. And still didn't meet their "expectations" to Activision they were let go. So their only experience is being told to stop what your doing and redo it over and flunking!!!
  • I very rarely buy a cosmetic in a game. If you look at my collection screen in Destiny 2 you can clearly see the line of before/after Bungie broke from Activision because you used to be able to unlock absolutely everything through gameplay alone. The moment Bungie got their independence my cosmetic collection became virtually non-existent. The cash only stuff went through the roof. I guess what I'm trying to say is I knew Bungie was the in big trouble year ago when they made me long for the Activision days🤮. God help us!

At the very least, we have the memories of The Taken King dlc even when a runaway dumpter fire ensued.
  • @Sidewinder1996
A lot of devs that made bungie special are gone or let go. Bungie isnt the bungie I loved any more. Not since destiny 1 at least.

Too much management, and what does management excel at? Passing the problems and blame onto others and scarpering with the cash.
