For me, Chaos A.D. is a quintessential metal album for the 90s (along with Vulgar, Demanufacture & Burn My Eyes) as so many bands can have their influences traced back to that album. Plus the lyrics leaning into real-life stories tackling heavy subject matter (Kaiowas, Territory, Manifest etc) was a MASSIVE step up from stuff like Morbid Visions (I find that album cute more than anything)

Beneath the Remains 5/5 for me. Still one of my all time favorite albums.

Love these discography ranking videos. It gives us viewers a chance to see how the reviewers feel about the older albums of a band. I loved Anthony Fantano’s Worst To Best series as well as his tier lists, but since he doesn’t really do them anymore and I mostly listen to rock and metal, these videos are fun to watch. Would love to eventually see one of these done for bands like Morbid Angel and Voivod.
  • I may be biased… but I think A-Lex is kinda top tier. Super chaotic and almost progressive/experimental at times. Almost a raw more industrial thrashy Meshuggah album at times. And yeah Quadra is my favorite album by them actually lol
  • It is funny how much hate the Green era used to get but really Machine Messiah did turn heads, even mine and I had tried to like their records post Max back then. Loved this video thank you, just tested positive for covid this morning and this was a wonderful video to enjoy while feeling cruddy.

Huh. Over the years, I've heard so many other reviewers constantly and relentlessly shit on Against, I was genuinely surprised by your take on it. Glad that there are others out there appreciating it. Excellent job, as always. I'm saluting you with my next beer!

I might be the black sheep of the family but I actually like the Derrick Green era especially starting from the Dante XXI álbum. Their latest álbum Quadra......is a real killer too.
  • Great video Robert. Really difficult discography to appraise and evaluate because of the range and diversity. I honestly love all those records for different reasons. Truly one of the most groundbreaking and unique catalogs in all metal. Love Sepultura since I was a kid, and still do. Igor Cavalera is one of the greatest metal drummers of all time. Never mentioned anywhere, which is a shame. Recently, I saw an interview with Bruno Valverde, who replaced Eloy in some US shows after he broke his leg. Bruno, a highly studied musician, had to learn Igor’s drumwork for the set, and he was astonished at Igor’s creativity. Igor had no formal training, just a crazy sharp artistic intuition. Today he gets crap for not having Eloy’s stamina (who the heck does anyway?) but he’s a true innovator and is still releasing really cool, leftfield music. If you dig Sepultura’s late 90s and early 2000s experiments, look up the EPs and b-sides from that period. They’ve covered so much sonic ground, have explored so many shades of extreme music over the years. One of the most forward thinking and open minded bands, and forgers of a unique aesthetic.
  • I was going to suggest a rundown of Sepultura on one of your other videos but did a quick search and sure enough you already did. So, thanks for doing this one. I really love these vids.
  • I think it’s incredible that so late into their career they’re making some of their all time best records. Massively inspiring, top tier material

honestly one of the greatest rankings ive ever seen right here, not only can i not really disagree with any take you put out here but you also hit a lot of points that i would also point out about these albums. personally I'm a fan of roorback but thats nitpicking. what a freaking great discography this is, one of the most interesting in all of metal, no doubt about that.

Thank you for not crapping all over the Derrick Green stuff. I think he’s great. Also, I always thought I was weird for not liking Roots very much. Other than Ratamahatta and Roots Bloody Roots I think it’s really boring. My favorite albums are Arise and Schizophrenia but Quadra is up there too 🤘🤘
  • @strangely08
I really hope Cavalera Conspiracy does a Chaos A.D tour like they did with Roots, Arise, and Beneath The Remains.
  • @Jayagebee
I never made it through Roots… It was just a confused mess in my ears. Up until Chaos A.D. I really dig!
  • Love the video man, thanks. I love Kairos and it is what made me go back and check the Derrick stuff, after max. But I do understand where you are coming from with your view in the records. much love and respect man
  • @ElliYeetYT
Honestly impressive that the band is still here, even after losing their entire original lineup.
  • @dedkat7
So now Soulfly list is needed!
