Mountain View Arkansas We Live Free Here

Published 2020-06-18
Mountain View, Arkansas, is a small town located in north central Arkansas, between the Arkansas/Missouri border to the north and Little Rock to the south. Mountain View is like 1000’s of other small towns across the south; full of history, culture, and warm, friendly people.

Established around 1870, Mountain View is now famous for its amazing connection to folk art and music, and it’s revitalized historic downtown is a great example of what makes this town special.

We were fortunate enough to stop off in Mountain View during a trip to Little Rock in early June of 2020. After enjoying a wonderful meal of barbecue, much to our delight and surprise, the town square across from the restaurant started to fill up, just as the sun was going down. This video captures just a tiny bit of the charm of the historic downtown, the Stone County courthouse, and some of the wonderful individuals who spontaneously gathered together to play their instruments on a beautiful southern evening.

If you are charmed by this small town, know that there are thousands more like it in Red states across the south. If you are considering escaping the Blues, visit us at www.Run2Red.com/ and get started making the move to the Red. We live free here.

This is how my town in Northern California looked 40 years ago. I hope you all keep it like that.

Some Saturday nights the square is literally packed with artists and spectators. It's like living in the 50s around here. But at 9:00 the town closes, I mean literally.

One of my favorite places in the world. Love going there every year
  • My in-laws have a place there, and we spend a lot of time there. Beautiful place. Bluegrass capital of the world
  • I actually have a book about my great great grandfather about up there called the ghost of the ozarks
  • It's fantastic, on a Sat. night I counted nine groups playing. Lasted until about two in the morning. If you play or just want to listen, very good place to spend a Friday and Saturday.
  • I ate at that BBQ place. Owner wouldn't let us pay for meal. I had my Air Force Retired hat on. Great town, better people
  • Very peaceful music I’m thankful to to enjoy it.🙏🏾

The gentleman singing Your Cheatin Heart looks just like a guy I was stationed with at Ft. Carson back in the late 80's. He played the guitar and sang then.

    Hello from Marshall Arkansas.
  • This is one of my favorite places to go for a long weekend. Just enough things to do to keep everyone happy, but not so much that you are rushed to see everything. Weekends on the square is absolutely amazing.

We have friends that retired to Salem last year and they rave about the area. We will be retiring in about 2 yrs and are so tired of the rat race. My wife will be visiting our friends in Salem in July (her hubby is going fishing in AK) and will be checking out the area. Looks like a great little town. We are old school conservatives and are looking for a small town with like minded people. After 35 yrs of LE we are ready for a slower, quieter pace of life!
