Putin Is Full of 'Crazy Ideas,' Says Latvia's Prime Minister

Publicado 2024-03-14
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina said a failure to support Ukraine and a Russian victory in the conflict will have a global impact, including the US. “If Russia wins, those consequences will affect all the world, also Washington – also the United States – not just Europe,” Silina, 48, said on Bloomberg Radio and "Balance of Power." She also describes what it's like being a neighbor to Russian president Vladimir Putin and says he is very unpredictable and full of "crazy ideas."

I’m sure most Europeans like me, see the USA as our friends. I don’t think anyone should want to change that narrative. Still I think the idea to rely less on the USA (not just when it comes to military of course, since part of defense is to be independent, if you ask me) sounds like a good idea.

Why do I feel like people like PM Silina value American principles more than US politicians?

Why does not anyone remind Americans that one hundred years ago because of the pressure of the Republican isolationists the USA pulled away from European and Asian affairs that ended with Pearl Harbor? And then GI had to go to Europe to fight. Over 400,000 American soldiers died. And later many thousands American soldiers died in wars against Commmunists in Korea and Vietnam. Then in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now the unic case that Ukrainians can fight by themselves. Just give them weapon and save lives of your own soldiers.
  • She’s spot on and I back her all the way 👍 And with respect, She’s got balls 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪✊✊

Very impressed with this lady; she is clear, concise and straight to the point. You find that a lot in Latvia, I have a second home there. The west should've listened to the Baltic States sooner, and we certainly should now. They understand Russia better than most, and they saw all this coming a mile off.

The Baltics are amazing and I will visit soon.

Why wouldn't aid to Ukraine be "necessary??" Russia dwarfs Ukraine in size. Ukraine has a population of 40 million to Russia's 140 million, and Russia is committing horrific war crimes against Ukrainian civilians, destroying its land and environment. Ukraine has already proven that it would make a wonderful, committed and courageous partner to the democratic world.
