After many recommendations from you guys on my The Owl House video, I finally checked out Gravity Falls as I was editing my last few videos - and I loved it so much, I felt like I had to make a video on it! It was a lovely self-contained show that emanated such a joyous feeling. And after having done research on the BTS of what went into making such a series, I fell in love even more.

I hope you enjoy this video, let me know in the comments if you wish to see more of me covering western animation!

I haven't covered a western animated series since my Arcane video, so it's been a little while! I'd love to cover She-ra, Amphibia, Spider-verse, Infinity Train etc. So any likes or comments does give me a better indication of knowing if people actually want that type of content!

I never knew Alex also had a sister, no wonder Dipper and Mabel's sibling dynamic felt so genuine

I just got back from a local convention, the sheer amount of cosplay and fan art still being produced for Gravity Falls 7 years after its conclusion is genuinely amazing. I think the testament to any piece of media's lasting legacy is both the people who make it and those who still talk about it
  • Animation is the perfect story telling medium. If you are talking about Disney's fairy tales or Bakshi's gritty "realism", animation can basically cover all the bases.

As someone who has siblings, most tv shows didn’t really relate to me or felt genuine but in gravity falls I felt genuine connection of a family from them<333

You know its gonna be a great 21 minutes when line in motion uploads

I'm so glad you addressed that most episodes are wrapped around an episodic fun instead of calling it this massive lore drama. That's what makes GF amazing to me (y'know, apart from everything else). It managed to balance all the beats perfectly

I watched Gravity Falls as it aired and it was such a great community to be a part of as it was happening. I remember being heavily on Tumblr and the app formally known as Twitter, and it was always fun watching and interacting with everyone who was watching the show and trying to figure out the mystery. I just rewatched the show with my fiancé (who had never seen it) and it was a blast to witness him learning everything anew.

I watched this series with my friend last month. Fantastic viewing experience

One of the main reasons why I love this show is Dipper and Mabel. They are honestly good siblings who got each other's back and sacrifices for the other.

y'kno it just occured to me how disgusting it is that I personally when i REALLY like a show start to think about "how could i financially support the artists behind this MORE?" because i damn well KNOW they're overworked and underpaid.
  • @Dogflamingo
Remember watching this all the time as a kid. The mystery was a big part of the appeal (I remember all the youtube videos surrounding it), but it was a genuinely enjoyable show even ignoring the mystery

I'm not sure why I never watched Gravity Falls when it came out, it must have just been in my few year downtime between watching every episode of Phineas and Ferb and getting into Anime in college. But my partner absolutely loves it. We also watch Over the Garden Wall every single Halloween, so that would be my personal recommendation for another western animation video like this! But obv make whatever you're interested in! Great video as always even for someone with limited knowledge on the series.

I always loved how collaborative the animation industry is. I remember the day when i learned that an owl house animator worked on the trailer for hades alongside a Chinese animator. Later that day i learned That Chinese animator later directed the heavenly delusion op with animation by hakyu go, the best mob ep director, legendary op director shongo Yamashita and for some web animator kay yu most well known as currently as a hololive fan-game creator. With James Baxter working on gravity falls and lord/miller working on Mitchells the chain of collaboration never ends.🎉

Its fun to think about, but both adventure time and gravity falls helped develop a fuck-ton of great artists, directors, etc, that then would go and create more stuff! Good old Gravity falls is a classic, that should be forever loved!

i finally finished gravity falls and i loved it so much i was afraid to let it go

I vaguely remember watching gravity falls as it was airing with my brother on cable. I barely remember it though, because whatever my brother watched, I watched, so it would be S1 of GF then onto S2 of TMNT then some transformers thrown in.. The sheer spontaneity of cable is something I miss from childhood. I do binge watch sometimes, but if I could go back to the days of anticipation for new episodes of series i love, i'd stay forever.

I finished gravity falls yesterday. It became my favourite show I have ever watched.

A1 Analysis as always! As someone who close to those in the animation industry many attribute their love for the art form to this show and I can see why.

Are you kidding? Of course we want more videos from you on western animation! 🥳 I'd also be really interested to see a breakdown of recent anime that western animators have worked on and vice versa!
