"House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second show in the franchise, created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. Both series are based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by Martin. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are the showrunners. Based on parts of the novel Fire & Blood, the series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. It portrays the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons"

  • it’s interesting to see how far the velaryons fell from power in around 100-200 years
  • Let's not forget that the mothers of both Aegon I and Jaehaerys I were both Velaryons, something which is fundamentally critical when understanding the relationship between the Velaryons and Targaryens.

I was curious about this after HOTD, given they're stated that they're richest family, and barely having mentions in ASOIAF. I suppose it makes sense that if Corlys just got a shit ton of wealth from a handful of voyages, and no one quite followed in his footsteps, eventually that wealth could run out, especially compared to the Lannister's nearly limitless source of wealth in their mines
  • @renatoovelar7442
From possessing an entire fleet to only 4 war galleys they really fell hard
  • You might say this family has a habit of backing the wrong seahorse :D
  • What’s even more confusing is Rhaena had the last dragon named Morning. She in the books took the dragon everywhere and the common folk actually loved her and they very much so took to her because of her dragon morning. However Rhaenerya and Daemons son Aegon the 3rd hated dragons and he is the SOLE reason the dragons died off. He told Rhaena to leave court because he hated dragons. But the books NEVER say what became of Rhaena and Morning

I love your fake sponsors never stop doing them. Even when you get real ones.

It’s quite clear that backing Rhenayra was a gamble that didn’t pay off. Leading to the complete demise of the Velayrons upper status. High tide being sacked and burned wasn’t helpful either. It’s a classic example of how Corlys had it all the status wealth and influence. But he failed to be content. Instead he did everything in his power to get blood on the throne. Even when it wasn’t in House Velyarons interest to do so.

Dam man imagine having a relatively small sub count yet having the editing and video quality of a creator with 10 times the size. Keep up the good work man
  • @dimvots6729
Not only the fell from power but the change physically too ..... ahahahhah
  • @jubilee.x6440
I’m glad i found your channel before you hit a million! Remember the little ones before you get big, annnnd…thank you for an amazing form of animation/storytelling
  • I was not sure about a corlys spin off, after hotd it's very easy to see why hbo trusted in the actor
  • Honestly, having seen HOTD so far and not having read the books, i did not think house Velaryon would even survive to the GOT time
  • Would be interesting if, when Dany makes it to Westeros with her Dragons, she meets the young Lord of the Tides, and he perhaps bonds with say, Viserion. Although Dany may be weary of her child bonding with someone, she would be wise to note that while Aegon did take over Westeros with 3 Dragons, he also had his Sister-Wives as Dragonriders. So, with the young Velaryon bonded with one of her Dragons, the rise of the Valyrian families together will help bolster Dany's own claim to greatness as well.
  • @annstillwell730
I can't remember if they are mentioned in the books much but it seems like they lost a lot of power probably after the Targaryens were all killed off. Better to keep a low profile if you were related to them and they were your allies with Robert Baratheon as king.
  • This is one of the best starting channels I’ve ever seen, great editing, good mic, funny. Real good.
  • @alexx5064
lmao your sponsor read is my favorite ever
  • A video on the Muppet Tullys could be cool I think. Loving the vids so far man
