Social security recipients can use an online portal to access security cards, applications and benefits. VERIFY readers Mary and Joan say they received an email notifying them of a change that requires them to set up a new account on a different website called Log in dot gov in order to access their Social Security information. They want to know if the email is real and whether it’s safe to create this new account.

But is it mandatory to switch over to new login? What if someone does NOTHING? Still receive check?
