Are Linseed & Tung Oil Safe? Additives and Offgassing

Published 2019-08-13
Comparison of linseed and tung oil finishes with a focus on tolerability for the chemically sensitive. I look at what chemical additives are found in these oils as well as the suspected ingredients in top brands like Rubio Monocoat and Odies Oil. I compare the offgassing rates of the 100% pure oil brands and the most popular brands. The blog post contains more information and the final verdict at 30 days of curing. www.mychemicalfreehouse.net/2019/08/linseed-and-tu…

  • I can't tell you how valuable your content has been to me. Thank you so, so much. You're an angel!
  • @EternalFlightVV
Thank you so much for sharing this information! Can I ask what you would reccomend for a wooden outdoor deck?
  • Water based stain with oil applied after is actually better. How do you mess that up?
  • I think she is talking much about likes or dislikes. Preference plays a large part in this. What makes a product "safe" or "unsafe" to humans is often subjective and misunderstood. I think what a product gives off ...as a scent may not indicate it's safety but rather do you like the scent or not? So these are two very different things. Research and examine the ingredients and stay away from products that don't list the ingredients (ingredients that can reveal exposure concerns and safety) if safety is a big concern. Many essential oils are hazardous to your lungs when put into a diffuser, although I see many people, including massage therapists and wellness clinics use them! So I agree with her point, you must do you research.
