I'll have to take some time to fully process this as I had never heard even the concept before now, but it reminds me of Binaural audio if Im understanding this correctly. As in how the phantom frequency that you percieve is a result of the frequency heard by one ear minus the different frequency that is being input to the other ear. Your brain then creates a sort of "phantom" frequency from the difference! Hopefully someone can finish this thought if it has any merit. Its very intriguing regardless!
