Season 03 : The American Southwest
Episode 03 : Lost Boy Larry : Albuquerque, NM

Communication is an integral part of any society. We need to communicate with each other for a variety of reasons, from making sure we can carry out our work duties effectively to simply making sure our family members know we love them. Another important communication is to alert others that we might be in need of help. In a life threatening situation, sending a message requesting help can save your life. Sometimes though, the message can get lost in translation.

I remember when I was 10 [2yrs after this] my brother getting in trouble for playing with grandpa's CB. Grandpa said to him "You don't want to be a Larry" I was so confused so I asked "Who is Larry?" I we were told the story. My brother never touched that CB again Thanks Jiles <><><><><><><><><><>much appreciated

Another story on my drive to work at 4:30 am! It seems like Jiles is giving us a lot more videos lately. Thank you for all the work you put into both channels ❤

Surly if there was a missing father and son with the son's name being Larry and all the media coverage you would have to think that eventually someone would come forward to report them missing...
  • Although not malicious like this, Me and my female cousin (Aged 14 and 15 respectively) did do something in the same realm, we got on the neighbor's CB pretending to be hot to trot teen girls while we flirted with truckers. You can imagine the attention we got, including a lot of offers to stop by, meet up or be picked up. Now I don't think we would have actually went some where, I don't think we were that dumb, but we were giving out more and more information on our location without really realizing it was being pulled out of us, that on hindsight could have got us "found". It was at this time a trucker came on the air and asked us to turn to a channel, and when we did, he laid into us like an angry step father. Telling us how dangerous what we were doing was, how he could tell we were young and getting dangerously close to trouble, and that if we did not get off the CB and stop doing what we were doing, that the police would trace us. (Perhaps not true, I don't know if that was possible or not) but it certainly did the trick. Later in life upon seeing the film JOY RIDE, I can't thank that trucker enough, as we could have gotten into some serious trouble if not dead had things continued the way it was going that day when we thought we were just "playing around".

We all had access to someone’s CB radio in the seventies! People told tall tales all the time because it was so anonymous. We did manage to talk to some boys who said they were driving around our summer vacation beach community! We really thought they were in Canada! A year later I was introduced to a guy and we dated that summer. Turns out his friend was the one with the CB in his car! He was with him on most of the outings too, such a small world! This was in 1977 in Maine. I can’t believe how this came flooding back when I heard this story! Thanks for that! :)

I didn't realize you were working on this series again. Now I have tons of episodes to binge.

this channel is so splendid. either videos about fascinating events or stories like this one that ive heard before, but forgotten about. like dusting off an old memory

Wow. What a story! Thank you so much. If it was a kid and it all was a hoax, I'm thinking he had someone older than himself providing some details to make it sound realistic enough to fool all of those adults into thinking its real- all of the things the kid said, etc....?

A lot of the time with the #SomewhereSinister episodes I have not heard of the cases however this is one I have definitely heard of.... I will say you did an excellent job of covering it and even included some information I hadn't really heard anyone else include.... For example the stuff about the ionosphere... I had never heard any of that.... Anyway Thanks for covering it 🙃 #StayEpic #NeverStøp

I am a born and raised New Mexican. I grew up in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho and I have never heard of this story. I don't know if it's because I was born in '87, way after this incident. Thank you for this great video. I will definitely be asking my parents about this story.

Wouldn't a surviving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt or uncle have come fwd as it being their family member reporting that Larry and his dad having never returned from rabbit hunting? Unless you believe Larry and his dad were the last 2 people left of that family and noone in the world knew them so could vouch for them or their existence and their never seen or heard from again 🙄🙄

I actually remember this. Vaguely. I was listening to music mostly since the rest of the time it was work. And my daughter and our home, family. It really disturbed most who heard of it. Thanks Jiles.🙏🤔💔

I'd be really curious to here some of the audio from these communications if it still exists..
  • My mother used to drive a semi in the late 60's and early 70's. I remember this story. I was always wondering what happened to the boy.
