Member of Parliament for Tabaquite, Anita Haynes-Alleyne, asserts her absence from Parliament on Friday was not a deliberate attempt to undermine the Opposition UNC.
She says her focus is ensuring the UNC’s internal processes are functioning as they should, and that the party is strong enough to successfully contest the 2025 General Election.
The Tabaquite MP made the comments on CNC3's The Morning Brew, today.

    Our country is too small for whips and caucuses. (Parties too, I'd say, but they have a specific—limited—benefit.) The point of Parliament is that Members present the perspectives of their constituents in view of legislating with the broadest possible satisfaction of needs. Membership over partisanship in Parliament.

    Dr. Indira Rampersad should be considered an UNC political analyst rather than a political analyst as her comments most of the time favors the party or the political leader of the UNC and most times are not objective. If a MP has an emergency can send a message to the clerk of the parliament for leave of a particular sitting. To be fair to Mrs. Haynes-Alleyne her request for leave was on the order paper. Her political leader many times especially in the 11th term of Parliament was hardly there and did not request for leave in the sitting. So it is quite hypocritical of her Political Leader to say she was not there when she requested for leave through the proper means to do so.

    As an MP representing citizens in your country refusing to show up in parlament to conduct the people's business to which you represent denie's those people their voices in the parlement. Personal vandettors going on within your political party MUST NOT interroupt the business of the people to whom you represent. YOU SHOULD RESIGN YOUR POST OR BE FIRED! This is very imature and unprofessional. By you not showing up clearly illistrate's that you do not want the job. Stand aside ans give way to someone who is willing to do the job that tax payers are paying you to do. Especially during these grim times when we are at war with our own government.
