Yes, today we're talking all about Sony Pictures Animations' Mitchells Vs Machines - as it is 3 years old today! But what made this eclectic movie so memorable and great? Where was Sony as a company at the time of release, and 3 years later... what kind of impact has a movie as special as this one made on the rest of the animation industry? Dropping in the middle of lockdown, going through multiple title changes beyond just the 'Connected' trailer, and being a follow up to Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse, this movie managed to beat all odds stacked against and potentially solidified the reputation of Lord and Miller and Sony, after mere years of the like of The Emoji Movie. Welcome to another ANNIVERSARY episode, and join the discussion for this 3 year retrospective of Sony's Mitchells vs Machines. The Sony Movie That Beat All Odds...

...I cannot overstate how much I adore this movie. I think this is the benchmark I expect every new animated movie to reach in order to be something truly worth s

I think this movie is really special. But do you have any particular memories associated with this movie? I'd love to hear it! :)
  • Animation isn't a genre, it's a medium. The entire concept of a "best animated picture" award shows how much the academy doesn't respect or understand what animation is.

I really related to Katie and Rick's struggle to understand each other's interests, until they found common ground by the end. It's a shame that this film doesn't receive more love or recognition.
  • It's amazing how people went from being skeptical about "Mitchell's" due to its apparent focus on how technology is evil, to it almost being shelved due to the pandemic, to it being one of the best animated movies of the decade so far! "Mitchell's" was definitely my favourite movie from the lockdown era!

Omg yes I loved this movie! As I grew up over the three years, I really started to relate to Katie's quirkiness. Also the "dog pig dog pig dog pig loaf of bread" gag will always make me laugh 😂
  • Slight correction: Gravity Falls wasn't Mike Rianda's show, he was one of the directors on it, but the show was created by Alex Hirsch (who was a story consultant on Mitchells and has a cameo voice role). The film is also co-directed by Jeff Rowe who was one of the writers on Gravity Falls and later went on to direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Other notable gravity falls alumni who were involved include Matt Braly (Amphibia) and Dana Terrace (The Owl House) who did some storyboarding work but went uncredited.
  • Honestly this movie reminded me a lot of my Dad and I when I got into NYU against all odds. He was against me going. He was scared of me getting hurt. We actually had a big fight in regard to me going. Both of us love each other a lot so it was difficult to be apart even for a big change like that. But we got through it. He supported me 100% and we became even more of a team than we already were. This film really captured how realistic it is to have this struggle and I always tear up at the part when Katie and her Dad finally understand each other and sing Live Your Life together.
  • I love how I got a notification of this video when I was looking at a blushing air fryer on Reddit
  • I didn’t expect much from it initially. I randomly put it on one day, and in just the first 5 minutes, I was like "This is much more relatable than most family movies." I was interested from there, and man it was great

I completely forgot about this movie 😭, can’t believe it’s already been 3 years
  • @EvripidouM
The two bots are the best characters of the movie

i watched this movie over and over again when it was released, and still come back to it every now and then. Probably one of, if not, my favorite animated movies of all time. the movie had NO right to hit that hard but it did, and to this day, it lies in the top 5 movies ive ever watched. i liked the humor, the story, the message, the animation, everything.

Just adding my two cents here, but after this film dropped a lot of Neurodiverse people adopted both Katie and Aaron as Neurodiverse representation, and as an autistic person, I feel a lot of kinship in Katie specifically. This film means a whole lot to me, as Katie's relationship with her father is very much a mirror to that of my own, to the point I tried using this film to talk to my father about things. It... didn't work, but, I really did try LOL. It was never confirmed, but there's so many signs that can be read as these characters being Neurodiverse, and I loved this movie's messaging about being "weird". It's very much a comfort film for me.
  • The Mom being feared is just perfect. FoolishHuman Airlines was also good. Have to love that free wifi lol
  • @goldroger5085
I thought sony would be a one hit wonder but this beat all the odds
  • @Oscar95451
Now this is Chicken Little done right, if that movie was about robot apocalypse, instead of alien attack
  • I go back to this movie time and time again. There's something really comforting about it.
  • Thank you for making the video and drawing my attention to the film An absolute masterpiece that seems to be talked about far too little I really had to shed a tear or two during long stretches of the film, it was very emotional, but also a lot of fun

"DOG PIG DOG PIG DOG PIG LOAF OF BREAD SYSTEM ERROR!" "AAAAA-"
