THE DUARTES are XL bully breeders hailing from California. Parents Wayne and Johanna share their home with their three kids; Sherlene, Selena and Samuel, as well as their beloved breeding bullies; Hussle, Choko and Athena. They pride themselves on being a family focused breeder and their business social media pages are plastered with photos and videos of their tiny children interacting with their large, powerful dogs. Wayne admits: “bullies are very strong, and in the hands of the wrong person just like any dog they can do damage," but asserts that his own dogs are harmless. The family have encountered a lot of judgement online with people saying bullies are “dangerous animals bred to kill” and “I wouldn’t trust one like that around my kids for all the tea in China”. Wayne responds: “I trust my dog to take care of my kid more than I would a human being," and expresses his controversial theory that many of the XL bully attacks that make the news are “probably not pure breed bullies, it’s probably just a mix”. With the recent UK breed ban hot on everyone's minds, the family worry about the future of the breed and advocate for keeping it legal. They’ve already convinced Wayne’s dad who was initially sceptical, and the Duartes won’t stop trying to persuade the masses that the bully breed are really just gentle giants.

I have two Labradoodles and I still wouldn’t ever be so sure they wouldn’t snap one day. The young boy is not playing with the dog safely… sitting on him, trying to pull the ball from him mouth - the dog is not obedient with the kids. The parents are not managing their pet correctly.

That dog won’t make you taller, bro. Also, while it’s true that not all of that breed are dangerous, how many cocker spaniels have devoured kids? Why risk it? Also, again, to be clear….Little Man Syndrome

The crazy thing is, if all owners of bully breeds (xl bullies, cane corso, Rottweiler, mastiff, pit bull, staff etc) who say their dogs are ‘harmless’, were asked to sign a declaration of AUTOMATIC JAIL TIME if their dog harms a person or other animal in ANY WAY, ….. I suspect they’d ALL REFUSE. They’re ALL FULLY AWARE of the DANGER their dogs pose to others.

I love dogs but I unlocked a new fear after my sis, who works as a trauma nurse, told me about the children who’d get rushed in because the family dog turned on them. And these weren’t even pit bulls, just large breed dogs. I won’t say for certain that these dogs will do the same but the potential is there, especially given the number of dogs.

I knew someone who had his dogs very early on, loved them, trained them, never abused or hurt them, they were exercised and feed. One day they still attacked him in his own home. We don’t have ultimate control over our pets. It’s sheer arrogance to assume you control an animal that much. Pits aren’t suitable to be pets and they’re willingly risking their own children’s lives for money.

Comparing a Chihuahua to a Pit is like comparing a paintball to a 50 cal.

I will pray for the lives of these innocent children and the community who had no choice to live amongst these animals. Rest in Paradise to the two Bennard children who we lost to this exact breed and size a year ago.
