The reason people suggested rio is because the crowd is insanely into it. You should watch it.
  • @Gary-zq9dr
The crowd in the Rio version is amazing. They "sing" the instrumental!
  • @Tonyr0206
Rio is the definitive live version of YYZ. On this tour, they slowed it down a little bit, to make a more full, rougher sound. Not that it's bad, but the people who made the request were right...Rio!
  • @markysumm72
I think YYZ is the Toronto airport code and that pattern at the beginning is YYZ in morse code.
  • @catmanpc9166
They do another instrumental that is even more intense. "La Villa Strangiato" from Exit Stage Left will blow your minds!. Please give this one a listen, it is epic. Thank you. ✌
  • @bushater69
The audio recording is much better with this video but the crowd in the Rio video is once in a lifetime. Both great performances!

The reason everyone requests the version in Rio is because Rush had never toured South America in like 30 years. They didn’t even know they were popular down there. The band was surprised when everyone knew every lyric to every song in English, but when they did YYZ, the crowd actually sings the melody along throughout the entire song. You just hear over 60,000 pumped up people in a soccer arena singing along with the guitar. It’s really amazing to hear a crowd that pumped. Anyway, that’s why the version of YYZ in Rio is so legendary.
  • @mpkelley20
It’s not just the crowd that makes the Rio version better but the overall mix is better. Honestly; if people are suggesting a specific song and version, there is a reason. Don’t ignore the requests please.
  • The atmosphere of the Rio one is so much better it made the song so much more powerful You're really need to do yourself justice and watch the Rio one
  • @breese4425
The Rio version is insane. The crowd is singing to an instrumental. Good you guys will still check it out
  • That stick flip by Neil --- let me tell you, when I saw it live, that stick went CLEAR up among the lights came back down never missed a beat. Signature move by Neil at that point in the song. This is a song where three of the greatest musicians solo at the same time without stepping on each other. In the live in Rio version, thousands sing along to an instrumental - EPIC.

RIO was amazing! Like a crazy soccer game. They sing to an instrumental!!!!
  • @jdbroders64
Like this live version, but the Rio version is way better IMHO because the crowd is super into it and their performance was feeding off that energy and it shows in their body language, expressions and playing.

The Rio concerts were epic! That is their one South American tour which they filmed called RUSH in Rio. For some reason RUSH just never toured down there. So literally, these people had been waiting their entire lives to see these guys who they thought they never were ever going to see. Then it happened! The Rio crowds actually blew the band away. Yeah, you want to see those. It’s impressive.
  • @Steffe
Ha, you can never go wrong with Rush, but you really should have a look at the Rio version as well.
  • When a live performance Rio Brazil or River Plate Argentina are available, always choose that, as the South American crowds are insane.
  • They are so much older here than when I saw them a couple times when I was young, but yep they can totally bring it for sure. It's just three guys but they do multitask like crazy and it is something to behold. Geddy is one of my favorite bass players.
  • @garylagstrom3864
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!! This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

This performance is definitely stellar and very clear how it was recorded . Can never go wrong. The Rio performance is definitely about the crowd. That visual of the Rio crowd jumping is really kind of insane. It sticks in the mind.
