Lyrics:

It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long
Caught somewhere between a boy and man
She was seventeen and she was far from in-between
It was summertime in Northern Michigan
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah

Splashing through the sand bar
Talking by the campfire
It's the simple things in life, like when and where
We didn't have no internet
But man, I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair

And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long

Catching walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We'd blister in the sun
We couldn't wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock and roll

While we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long

Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change
Or how we thought those days would never end
Sometimes I'll hear that song and I'll start to sing along
And think man I'd love to see that girl again

And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long

Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long

Every time I hear this song it makes me smile and think back to my high school days and growing up in the '70s and '80s. Kids today will never truly know the carefree and fun we had back then. We did so many things that parents would never allow their children to do today, such as; being left alone while your parents went to work or out at a young age, being out all day with your friends doing whatever whenever Sometimes from when you woke up till bedtime, not having to worry about someone hurting, kidnapping, or killing you when by yourself or with friends, being with immediate and extended family-it was priority over most everything else and not something you even thought about, not wearing seatbelts, riding in the front seat or wherever in the car, playing outside from sunup to sundown, playing kick the can, Annie-I-over, hide and seek plus others, tv with "bunny ears", no remote, and only 3 channels, riding in the back of a pickup truck bed, drinking water from the hose outside, not thinking about or even knowing about suicide because of bullying, being expected to know or do so much at such a young age. We just got to be just kids and embrace life without much worry. I really miss those times. Things just were more simple and carefree when there wasn't so much technology and all that comes with the advancements. Sorry so long, kinda got carried away in my memories.

7 years ago it, can't be, seriously? My gawd fuckin' hell time goes by so fast, like damn,
  • I absolutely love this song. It reminds me of when I was a teenager and me and my friends would party at the lake in the Summer. We would party all day into the night. Those are some of my best memories. Times were so much better then. The world was more innocent and fun.

My mom, 85, loved this song. We'd play it on loop in the car. She's just passed.

I can't describe how much I love this kind of music. Although born in central Europe it always brings me to USA especially to those "country music" states like Texas, Alabama or Nashville. Just banjos, acoustic guitars, whiskey, corn fields and chillin' out :) Have a great day all you lovely Americans down there :)

  • Born in 65,growing up in the 70s, 80s,an 90s was a time I will never forget, the music was awesome and had meaning it got into your soul, now I'm 56 and still listening to the music of my past and it still gets me going an ready for another day, thank you Kid for keeping that feeling alive with all your music.

Never been a big fan of Kid Rock per say, but gotta give him much love for capturing those days so well. No one had i-pods or Beats where we listened to our music alone. Someone...EVERYONE....had a boom box, or ghetto blaster or whatever the local term was. And whoever had the biggest baddest, bestest one was always invited to hang out. Or you left the doors to your car open and did it that way. We lived and played TOGETHER back then as opposed to now where everyone is an island and 90% of people live in their phones. It was glorious, and for those too young to have known it...I feel for y'all. I really do.
