➤ Curses are something prevalent we see in the Pirates of the Caribbean lore, with some turning the victims into skeletons, ghosts, or even humanoid sea creatures.

My favorite curse has to be the Aztec curse on Cortes, it just has so much history but is also so simple and interesting like the first movie.
  • Technically the black spot is also a curse but I can see why you didn't include it because it kinda goes hand and hand with the dutchman curse and Davy Jones
  • Thank you for this explanation. A couple things I still wonder are these: 1, if all curses were broken upon the destruction of the Trident, why did Davy Jones appear to haunt Will in the post credits scene, despite Will being seemingly free? 2, even with all curses broken, how would the souls of those who died at sea truly pass on if the Flying Dutchman was now just a normal ship? And 3, how can Will Turner survive without his heart in his body if he’s been freed from the Dutchman, and therefore (most likely) mortal once again?

Ok fine, I’ll watch Pirates of the Caribbean again..
  • this is why the plot of the most recent Pirates of the caribbean is so confusing and annoys fans of the original trilogy. Apparently every curse is contained within a greek gods trident and breaking it releases every curse setting them free. But clearly they forgot about the first movie where another realm of gods exists (with different levels of power) and it supposedly fixed those ones to? was truly annoying when they forgot about that. Like Barbossa even says "the heathen gods placed a terrible curse". meaning there is more than one pantheon of gods. Calypso is even based in Haitian mythology. always get mad when they dont do research properly.
  • Awwww, this brought me back to the good ol' days of POTCO.
  • 3:06 Jolly Roger is also obviously cursed himself, by himself no less. He had been a voodoo-wielding pirate who had planned on cursing Jack in a game of cards, believing he couldn’t lose. A suspected slight of hand later and Jack took the pot. With this loss, Roger found himself withering and aging as his body became the visage of a rotten shambling corpse.
  • You should do POTC artifacts like Blackbeards sword, jacks compass obviously, the chart map, etc

I wanna know what happens if you stab the heart but like refuse to become captain or are so far inland from carrying the heart there to kill it. And then if that person does does the curse pass to someone new or does something happen at sea where the dead don’t pass to the other side but become like sea ghosts or something.

That raises an interesting question. If the Trident contained all the curses, would Will die when the Trident breaks? Considering how his curse works, the crew had to cut his heart out as a part of the curse. Knowing the human body, it can't live without the heart inside the body and if his heart is still inside the chest when the curse is lifted, then technically he dies on the spot.
  • I'm glad you mentioned Jolly Roger. He's literally my favorite villain in the POTC universe. I even drew my version of how he might look as a human. You should totally do a video about Jolly Roger's backstory.
  • So for the flying dutchman's curse, from my understanding the curse only happens if you don't perform the job correctly/at all, but that the part where you need to ferry those who die at sea and that the ship must always have a captain are not part of the curse but part of the title of of ship, and the ship's purpose. What this should mean after the events of 5 is that 1) now william is free to leave the service of the dutchman without being cursed 2) that Davy jones minus the curse might be resurrected? human davy jones fr
  • I still remember playing the opening mission to Pirates of the Caribbean Online, what a memory to have
