    The first time I heard myself being identified was when a white man pointed at me and told another white man: "go ask that colored kid!" And I was a colored kid until the day I walked into Mount Morris Park and saw the drummers and the women with natural hair, dancing and hearing folks calling themselves Black people. At that very moment I knew I wanted to be a Black man. That experience has shaped my life to this very day, and I am forever grateful!
