Poet and activist Amanda Gorman spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, reciting her new poem “This Sacred Scene” in front of the crowd.

The piece from the former National Youth Poet Laureate celebrated the prospect of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the first woman of color to serve as U.S. president.

In 2021, Gorman read her poem “The Hill We Climb” moments after President Joe Biden was sworn in at his inauguration.
