  • Kinda a personal story but a while back when I was in a mental hospital, this was the last song I heard the staff playing for the others before I was released back to my family. This song really hits close to home, and to be honest it makes me feel so happy and free when I remember how far I’ve come from that time of a dark point in my life

“Leave all your love and your longing behind, you can’t carry it with you if you want to survive.”

Guardians of the galaxy 3 gonna live rent free in my head for a very long time. Can’t get over how amazing it was, like I knew it was gonna be good but… damm

according to google: The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius, which Greek and Roman astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. so this song IS talking about better days!

im listening to this as i go to a mental clinic, ill be there for days, im gonna miss my mom, my dog and my cats, but i have to get better, so the phrase "leave all your love and your longing behind, you can't carry it with you if you want to survive" is my mantra right now, pray for me, ill be back soon and better

I haven't listened to the song in years. This is one of those songs that was over played so much that you just decided to lock it away and then one day you decided to bring it back into the line realized that this is such a great song and you feel stupid for refusing to listen to the song just because it was so great it was played on the radio like all the time
  • Happiness hit her like a train on a track Coming towards her stuck still no turning back She hid it 'round corners and she hid it under beds She killed it with kisses and from it she fled With every bubble she sank with her drink And washed it away down the kitchen sink The dog days are over The dog days are done The horses are coming So you better run Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers Leave all your love and your longing behind You can't carry it with you if you want to survive The dog days are over The dog days are done Can you hear the horses? 'Cause here they come And I never wanted anything from you Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that The dog days are over The dog days are done Can you hear the horses? 'Cause here they come Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers Leave all your love and your longing behind You can't carry it with you if you want to survive The dog days are over The dog days are done Can you hear the horses? 'Cause here they come The dog days are over The dog days are done The horses are coming So you better run The dog days are over The dog days are done The horses are coming So you better run

Damn, I had happy tears when this scene came on. GoTG is one of my all-time favorite movies and I was blown away with how uplifting the ending felt. What a great goodbye to the MCU's best family.

Thank you to Guardians of the Galaxy for making this song popular!
  • @yabellies
I always listened to this when I dreamt about leaving my family's house and make my way alone. The day finally came. I'm writing this on my new home. I feel scared, but the lyrics remind me to not be attached to my past life and be happy for this new jorney.

I’ll miss you, GOTG. 😭 What a fantastic note to end on, and brilliant song choice.

This is the song that helped me accept my sexuality. “Leave all your love and your longing behind” helped me realize that I couldn’t live with my self-doubt forever. It’s time for me to accept myself.

My fiancé ended things shortly before GOTG3 came out. I began to sob when Peter was begging Gamora to try and love him because I remember doing the exact same thing, thank God that scene ended with a joke. But the end with this song made me choke and cry, knowing that eventually I’ll stop feeling this pain of being alone again and can hopefully find someone who will love me for me.

I got so excited when this song played in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. What a great song to end with!
  • I have recently just left an extremely emotionally and physically abusive relationship and this song means so much to me. I used to be woken up being called “dog” and abused. now it’s finally over I’m free and the dog days are over!
