Amp with bias and ssb delay: 7:14 Amp with SSB delay only: 9:20 You be the judge. In my opinion the difference is non-existent to very minimal
  • It's all about having certified calibrated test equipment... and paying attention...back to the bench!!!
  • @jgmopar
They seem to be pretty equal. I like these types of videos.

Very informative video.. could not tell the difference between them .. Have a RM Italy KL503 that works fine on both AM and FM but sounds absolutely disgusting on SSB .. been told its something to do with the Bias but still non the wiser how to remedy it... 73's
  • WOW !!!. OVER 1,000 VIEWS IN 5 DAY'S AND ONLY 60 LIKES. THANK YOU ROOSTER FOR MAKING THESE VIDEO'S FOR USE. SORRY PEOPLE CAN NOT TAKE A HALF OF A SECOND TO TAP A LIKE.
  • Your amp could be biased to C, B, AB, or heck A, but none of it will matter if your radio is not clean, if you have a fully linear amp and your radios IMD, or splatter isn’t tuned to the lowest possible, you are still going to get a dirty signal on the other side of the amplifier.
  • Rooster, thank you for this video. I have had several amps changed to bias and have nothing but problems. I am having my latest amp changed back to a class C without bias because I am tired of the failures. Please tell me what is going on.
  • I learn something new everyday watching your videos. Thank you πŸ‘πŸ“

I have mobile amps with and without bias and I do a ton of ssb talking because it's fun to be able to talk to 37 different countries! I use a Anytone 5555 plus that my tech has done he magic too and nobody can tell any difference whatsoever! One I really like is my 450 galaxy elite that was straight AM so I had my tech install a delay and it's clean and loud! Good stuff Mr rooster, 533!

Biased amplifier didn't have as much crunch sound to me although it was pretty close with this type of test , i think it was a great demonstration for people to hear because there's so much misinformation out there it's gets confusing at times to make the right decisions. I do know a lot of techs. Will say it's about the signal you're transmitting on the air and the purity of audio sign wave,... curious if youd notice a big difference between the 2 with spectrum and oscilloscope? Maybe that's been done 100 times i don't know...73 thanks for the comparison video

They sound about the same but I think the biased amp has a smoother sound tone . I think the audio sounds better not as harsh on the biased. Amp

Should do more receive videos. Be interesting to see how some of them stack up especially the rm Italy amps

I can be pretty critical. It was hard to tell much difference. At times the biased one seemed less fuzzy on the edges but sometimes the the class c cleared up. I wonder if you know if the biased one is running in class AB. I would expect it to be better in class AB or AB1. They both were however extremely wide, 2.5 channels or more each side.

Just my opinion, the biased amp sounds better.
  • The added power cleaned the audio up a bit, the voice was a little more natural with power, signal was about the same, the graphics on that icom are beautiful
