Best Coffee Brewer: Clever Dripper vs V60

Published 2022-11-28
Which home coffee brewer is the best for you? Today we put two of our favourite coffee products to the test: the @harionjp vs the Clever Coffee Dripper. Both brew really nice cups of coffee at home. Both look very similar. But these are two totally different products. So, which one is best for you?

I'm a huge fan of the Clever Coffee Dripper. I have been drinking coffee for nearly 60 years, I've used every imaginable way to make coffee. This simple, logical device creates the best coffee I have ever tasted. And yes, it can be compared with the French Press until it comes to the cleanup!

As someone who has stomach problems but still love my coffee, the clever sounds like the way to go👌
  • Thank you for the great video. I love my Clever coffee hugs. Best thing I bought this year.
  • I really enjoyed the video, I’m a micro roaster in Dubai. Keep up the good work
  • I make coffee at work most often, so my v60 and my hand grinder live there. I keep the Clever at home for the weekends when I actually make coffee (not as often because I usually get something when I get donuts for my kids), but especially I use it on trips, because it's indestructible and easy to throw in a bag and it doesn't care what kind of kettle I have at my destination. Randomly, my friends' wives seem to like the coffee from the Clever more than the drip coffee or French presses our vacation places invariably make available. And as a random aside, my daughter liked that you wanted a coffee hug. 🤗
  • You can use clever dripper as perciuation one...Just treat it as if v60, just put clever on kraf all time. Advantaga is that you interrupt flow of water down to kraf any time you wanted, you do real v60 blooming for example and continue like normal clever etc. Lots of lots possibilities. 2 minites is too short for immersion for me. I do 4-5 min.

I thought for sure you would mess up the clever dripper technique. But was pleasantly surprised that you pretty much aced it.
  • I brew with the V60, the Cleverdripper, and the Aeropress, and I find they all have their strengths and weaknesses. My V60 method is nearly identical to yours, same ratio as well. However I often prefer to get the full coffee experience, oils and all, without filters, so I use my Aeropress with one of those stainless steel screens rather then the round filters. This is also preferable to my French Press which, I agree with others, is a pain to clean. Nice review!

We travel a lot and love finding new coffee shops but when we can we like to brew coffee ourselves in our campervan. We have both the clever dripper and a v60 (yes it's overkill, but worth it 😂) and sometimes we just need the coffee to be made nice and easily so we would tend to lean a bit towards the clever dripper a bit more. It's just so much simpler. Don't get us wrong though, we LOVE our v60!!!

I love my daily mug of pour over (Team Kalita), doesn't get better than that.

Love my Clever. I put in the water first and then the coffee.
  • @BrendanvanSon
Definitely think you get a more nuanced #coffee with the v60. But, I do like how hands-off the Clever dripper. I will use the Clever at times in the future for sure.
  • Thanks for a really nice video. Ideas for tests. I think there is an add on making v60 become an immersion like Clever. I like Clever but often take out the first lighter water after 1 minute and then pour it back into the clever. I would be interested if either of these Clever techniques would be better or worse than Hario V60 with the add on (named Switch??) That little plug? costs more than 2 entire Clever I believe so quite overpriced, but is it better than my clever technique avoiding the side water? some other interesting techniques is to use espresso machine in a blooming process, and for lazy clean taste, espresso through paper filter with added 80 C water, clean cup.
  • I was today years old when I learned the "60" in V60 was for 60 degrees.
  • I first bought a V60; then I got a Clever, so I could make a consistent "8 out of 10" to benchmark my V60 cups against, while I figure it out.
  • @KNURKonesur
I've used both for years, and keep using them cause neither is "best". They both work well with different coffees and expectations.

I'm a Chemex on the weekends type of guy, because I have the time. I use the Clever D during the week, when I don't want to fuss around. after a few years of being a coffee novice, I have had some amazingly good cups at home and at coffee shop 'cuppings.' What I always find interesting is the 'tasting notes.' I hardly ever agree with the tasing notes on the label, lol. Maybe it's just me... 😅

As easygoing as the clever dripper looks regarding brewing, there is nothing better than the coffee a well-prepared V60 can offer you. I am #V60 all the way!
