JJared Padalecki (Supernatural, Gilmore Girls) joins me this week to reflect on his SP Family and rollercoaster that these last 15 years have been.

Jared shares the emotions heā€™s had during some of the ā€œlastā€ moments while shooting the final episodes and talks about not wanting the ride to end, for good.

We also talk about self fulfilling prophecies with anxiety and depression, Jaredā€™s newfound respect for his wife after fathering during quarantine, and what exactly led to his arrest a few months back. Love this dude, completely open book.

I will always be grateful for Jaredā€™s openness and honesty when it comes to mental health. I hope he knows how many people heā€™s helped by speaking so publicly about what he goes through. Thank you for having him on the podcast again, this was a fantastic conversation. And I am so sorry to hear about your sister, sending love.

This episode could've been 5 hours long and my ass would still be glued to the seat. What a good conversation. Still not ready for the show to end.

I love Jared so much. He's the reason I started even watching Supernatural. I came across a quote of him talking about his depression on Pinterest and it encouraged me to seek help for myself. Jared changed my life and doesn't even know it.

I remember reading a magazine interview with Jared online; about his mental health issues rearing it's ugly head during filming of the 3rd season of Supernatural, and he had said something along the lines of "I had dogs, friends and family members who I knew loved me, but I was depressed anyway". That quote helped me realize that it was okay to admit to being depressed, and that I needed help for my own depression and anxiety. I was the kind of person who would viciously beat myself up at the first sign of depression, telling myself that I was being a conceited asshole for feeling sad "for no reason", telling myself that I had no right to be upset when other people out there had it worse, that I was being overly dramatic, etc. I had found Supernatural in 2014 or 2015 ( I forget exactly) only a little while after my own health issues took a dive in 2013. So having someone out there KNOW what it felt like, and to be open an honest about mental health, really helped me come to terms with my own.
  • Probably one of those podcast episodes that made me cry. My sincere condolences to you and your family, Michael.

I love it when actors act like normal people. Pretty much all of the SPN cast has that vibe, it's pretty awesome
  • @taraw8282
Jared is so honest and down to earth, he seems like such a kind and understanding person. We ā¤ļø you Jared!!
  • I love that Mike gets his guests to open up and show how human they are without making everything weird. Jared opening up about his arrest and stopping his drinking was an eye-opener. I'm glad that he learned from it and acknowledged that it was humiliating, but it's something that could have happened to any of us. He's wise enough to learn from his mistakes. And when he was talking about mental health and his dog Sadie, I was teary-eyed for sure. His insights into mental health are always interestiing. And Michael, I'm sending all kinds of healing energy to you and your sister!

I'm so proud of being a Jared fan. I feel like he has one of the biggest heart in the world. He puts his soul into everything he does and he's so honest. I truly look up to him. He was the main reason I started Supernatural and he's the main reason I've been watching it for more than 10 years now. I can't wait for Walker and everything he does after Supernatural.
  • @sklingen21
Jared is a good guy. Down to earth. Human as hell. Bravo for 15 years of supernatural
  • Thank you to Michael and Jared for such a sincere and bright conversation. Jared for me is not a "varnished" celebrity, but first of all a person. A person who does everything in his power for his family, friends and work. I wish you creative success in your future work, loyal friends and a long life for your beloved dogs.
  • @Kalibby22
Listening to him, and Jensen, being so candid about stuff, is always so interesting. I could listen to them talk forever
  • @Wanderer-xp3wg
Let me just say it here, I love the podcast, I love the guests but, man, the way Michael opens up, the things he shares, his fears and dramas, all those raw spots! I could seriously listen to him just talking about his life for two hours every week. He is the star and the soul of this podcastšŸ‘. He is what brought me here and what keeps me coming every weekā¤ļø. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one šŸ˜‰.

There are few celebrities I have more respect for than Jared Padalecki. His openness with regards to mental illness is important, and he's one of the few people with such a platform that actually uses it to put that important issue to the forefront. The fact that he had a slip-up is, to me, more a positive than a negative, at least in terms of the people that look up to him. "He's this millionaire actor, but hey, he had an issue like I had an issue." His work to get rid of the stigma that plagues mental illness is inspiring, and commands commendation. Great episode.
