Beekeeping means inspecting your hive every two weeks. Many beekeepers do not know how to inspect their hive. They open it up and look inside but have no clue what they are looking at or looking for. In this video I'll walk you through a complete hive inspection. We will put eyes on 30 frames.

If you would like to inspect your hive with more clarity and guidance, check out my new Beekeeping Inspection Guide. This is a must have if you want to get the most from your hive inspections. Here's the link:

  • No other Bee keeping channel even comes close to Dave. Wow. I wish I lived closer and knew him.
  • I grew up watching my dad tend his bees and harvest honey... I have always loved and respected bees and covid has helped guide my passion into beekeeping (something that I subconsciously wanted since I was in my ealry 20s). This year, I have my own bees and have been accompanying my dad in tending his... I send him your videos and he is now subscribed to your channel. Thank you for the content you put out.. thank you for being a conscious beekeeper and for allowing so much creativity. Glad you're here!

This is an outstanding video. I’m very new to beekeeping and this was incredibly helpful. This video along with your inspection sheet was powerful for a detailed inspection of my hive.
  • I was stoked when I received this video notification , as I always learn something new with every video. Hives are doing great in Southeast KY right now
  • I just did my 3rd hive inspection ever today, this video has given me more clarity of what to do and look for next time!
  • I really enjoyed your description of the stages of brood and how to forecast a colony's strength. Learned some new things here. Thanks for all you do!!!!
  • Thank you for this video. I've inspected my hive a couple of times, but now I feel like I know better what to look for!
  • Could you revisit your observations about the medium frames? Specifically, I'm interested in how/why the comb was drawn as drone comb. Since it was drone comb, wouldn't you want to count the brood separately as drones? I understand this would complicate things a bit in what your goal was here, but I was interested in how/whether you'd account for the drone brood. THANKS for a very clear explanation - doing the math as you did really clarified the matter of queen productivity for me!

Hi. Love your videos. Very educational. The larva is growing so fast it need to molt 5 times. I do believe that there are a total of four larval instars. Thanks for all your hard work!
  • Really enjoying your content. I'm getting back into bees after a 10 year break. I'm in New Zealand and its winter here so I'm spending time to school myself up before spring arrives. Just joined our local bee club as well.
  • This really helped us Dave! Thanks so much from really new beekeepers! Quiz: 1. To grow. 2. 5 times. 3. 5
  • Thank you for your video's! They are very satisfying to watch! Greetings from Netherlands
  • David...I am busted! Thank you for helping me be a beekeeper and looking forward to becoming a better bee keeper!
  • I’m pretty sure I saw the queen at 18:58 it was clearly a white dot located at 8:00 if you’re looking at a clock. It was below and to the left of one of your blue worker bees. Lorie 😁
  • Honeybees molt five times and have five instars. Honeybees molt to shed their skins to be able to grow. Love your videos and find them extremely informative.
  • Another very informative video, I really like having you as a VBM (virtual bee mentor), answer to questions 1) molting allows larvae to shed their exoskeleton so they can grow 2) six 3) five
