Various studies, a association between severe vitamin D deficiency and bad COVID-19 outcomes.

Vitamin D plays a crucial role in immune function and inflammation.

Recent data suggest a protective role of vitamin D against bad outcomes

Nutraceutical approach

Promote the immune response and reduce the inflammatory response

Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties of vitamin D

Immune optimisation and immune boosting

Vitamin D maintains pulmonary barrier function

Determines the production of antimicrobial peptides

Enhances neutrophil activity

Shifts the adaptive immune response to a more T helper cell-2 type

Anti-inflammatory effects of vitamin D

Reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines,

such as IL-6, IL-8, IL-9, IL-12, TNF alfa, IFN gamma

Increases production of anti-inflammatory cytokines,

such as IL-4, IL-5, IL-10

Patients with a low baseline vitamin D, more benefit

Reduce risk of asthma exacerbations

Prevents acute respiratory infections,

and reducing their complications

COVID-19 and vitamin D (Co-VIVID study): a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8862170/

The rates of RT-CR positivity were significantly decreased in the intervention group as compared to the non-vitamin D groups

(RR = 0.46)

Conclusively, COVID-19 patients supplemented with vitamin D, fewer rates of ICU admission, mortality events, and RT-PCR positivity.

Meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA)

Better explain the strength of association

Protective role of vitamin D supplementation,

and risk of mortality / admission to intensive care units

We searched four databases on 20 September 2022.

Screened the randomized clinical trials (RCTs)

Assessed the risk of bias

(how to adjust thresholds for significance in randomised clinical trials when the required sample size has not been reached)

The pre-specified outcomes of interest

Mortality and ICU admission

78 bibliographic citations

Five RCTs were suitable for our analysis

Results

Vitamin D administration results in a decreased risk of death, 0.49

Vitamin D administration results in a decreased risk of ICU admission, 0.28

Protective role of vitamin D and ICU admission

The TSA of the protective role of vitamin D and ICU admission showed that, since the pooling of the studies reached a definite sample size, the positive association is conclusive.

  • On your advice I started taking 5,000 units in mid 2020 and am glad that I did. Came down with COVID two weeks ago and got through it within 7 days like a champ with just a couple of bad days at the beginning. I'm 76 years old and appreciate all the good advice that you have given us over the last three years.
  • My name is Mike Van de Sande from Canada. Not as proud to be a Canadian citizen as I once was. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your brave and inspiring commentary on this subject. You show what the rest of the worlds experts, doctors, and scientists should be doing. Reporting and working with the facts.and in harmony. Honesty, open minded, and willing. I and everyone else owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude.

I started vitamin D a few years ago and stopped getting respiratory infections and bad coughs that I was getting before. I had covid twice with no respiratory symptoms. I keep sharing your videos with people and trying to get them to listen. I am an example of proof that it works. Thank you so much for all that you do! You are brilliant and your videos are helping many people!
  • I am 71, retired Chiropractor and former nurse…my husband is 66. We take 10,000 units vitamin D3, along with zinc and now, K2 +multi. My husband managed 22,000 Union carpenters here in the US , so he was exposed….neither one of us have had covid. We’ve followed you and watched you struggle to get information out to the public. A bell rings in heaven for you Dr. Campbell for probably saving thousands of lives. Thank you and God Bless you.

In 2021 I contracted COVID and was in the ICU for 3 days. The 1st 2 doctors pushed Remdesivir on me. I refused and had to sign a waiver. I was made to assign a proxy. Then in comes another Dr. And she started me on aggressive D3, Zync, Vitamin C, and saline. She told me that I did right by refusing the Remdesivir, especially since my kidneys were already hurting badly. Anyway...I continue to take D3 and need to add K. I am sharing this video with everyone. Thank you so much!

Dr John, you are and have protected so many people with your advise over the last few years. You are allowed to get emotional and thank goodness you do. I have been taking Vit D for the last 3 years and I thank you sincerely for all your advise. I have never felt better. 68 years old. God bless you for all you have and are doing for us all.
  • @MicStowe
When you literally jump up and give the good doctor a standing ovation. And a virtual hug. Thank you, Sir, you are a precious hero to me and my 98-yr old father.
  • I am originally from Slovakia and just want to say that in Slovakia elderly people were actually offered free vit D during pandemic. I remember my 82 years old parents were taking it regularly over the previous winter and taking it atm too. It was a government initiative. They got something right at least!
  • @marycorzette6562
Thank you Dr. Campbell for truly having our best interest at heart. We love you for it❤❤❤
  • @Furmily
This is the first video of yours I have watched and I love the way you present, from the way you show us the evidential words on paper, underline key points and make notes, and explain in simple terms as you go through the papers. So educational and enjoyable at the same time. Thank you. I have subscribed and will visit often to learn more.
  • Please don’t ever apologize for being angry. I am a former allied medical professional. My own patient experience led me to leave the field, took up second career in health law. Your mild pique and humane moral indignation keeps me sane. Love from the U.S.
  • @Denise-vn8wz
"I now believe it's unethical .. not to advise vitamin D supplementation" - you heard it hear AGAIN. Well done Dr JC.
  • Vitamin D supplementation by Canadians is quite common, since our weather is almost as bad as yours. Its value in acute respiratory illness is well-known, but it is nice to see this meta-analysis, and interesting to see the dosing schedule for ICU patients. It appears both protective and therapeutic. If Vit D is not routinely taken by UK residents, it may reflect the reality that deaths per capita were much higher from Covid in the UK than in Canada.
  • @chrisbilling
Thank you for putting this info out. I have been swearing by the vitamin D and zinc combo for almost a decade now. 5,000-10,000 IUs daily in winter. And equally important is getting fresh air and sunlight. It pains me to think of all those sick people shielding themselves from sunlight and the outdoors in their process to getting better.
  • @halfwitt64
I wonder how many lives you've saved Dr John. If it was up to me you'd receive a Nobel Prize for your gifts to humanity. Well done....👏💯
  • @KayCeeTX21
It’s okay to be emotional. This IS emotional. It’s devastating for medical professionals who never forgot to First Do No Harm! You are a hero Dr. Campbell. Keep going!!! ❤
  • @DouglasJMark
The new vitamin D “extra strength 2,500 IU” tablet format I see in Canada 🇨🇦 is one I tell patients to take when they resist taken 3-4 tabs of 1,000 IU to get their blood levels into the normal range. After highly recommending vitamin D for nearly 20 years, I have about 20% success uptake rate with them. Thanks!! Lotsa love from Toronto ❤❤❤
  • Thank you so much for explaining all the medical terms , breaking it down and teaching it in a way that most people can understand. What you do is so important and extremely helpful and valuable to people like myself and hundreds of others I am sure . So I just wanted to thank you with all of my heart ❤️.
