This week we continue our study of R-controlled vowels. Students notice that when AR is followed by E, it takes on a long A sound. Car becomes care and far becomes fare. Students discuss the meanings of several /AYR/ homophones, such as pare/pair/pear and fare/fair. They mark up common suffixes, such as LY, FUL, and Y. As they learn the meanings of each vocabulary word, students label nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
