  • Please make more woodworking videos. I like your teaching style. I am a newbie to woodworking. I think I can make this after watching your video. Thanks!

I once built a dog house out of Aspen Board and never bothered to give it a coat of paint. Five years later I passed the dog house on to another dog lover as I no longer had a dog. I don't know how long it lasted after that point or if they painted it, but Aspen Board is pretty durable. 3:13

Anyone building this be sure to round off the corners of the wood where they rest into the notch of the angle iron. The inside corners of the angle iron are not square. If you don't do this you will have a hard time squaring up your project or the shelves won't sit firmly against the metal.

Thanks for watching! let me know if you built this project!

Would be good with some type of pully system so you do not need a ladder to put the stuff up on the shelf. 1:44

  • Hmmm... I finally followed Ann's advice and took Woodglut. It's great for beginners and has some advanced stuff too.

You're using a lot of vertical space up with the huge thickness of each shelf. As its being used inside I doubt if you're putting several hundred pounds on each shelf. If you used 3/4" plywood you could still put a lot of weight on each shelf. It seems slotted steel angle solves all these problems used with cheap L brackets to support the shelf. And it gives you adjustable height. Granted it won't look as nice as the wood you used here but if the shelf wood was stained nicely it might be acceptable for a living room provided the steel angle was painted appropriately.
