macmost.com/e-2191 If you have vertical video shot on an iPhone that you wish to edit on a Mac in iMovie, usually this means cropping the video into horizontal format. But by using a trick in iMovie, you can both edit and export true vertical video.

Working amazing except I don't see the 4K export option. I am using 1080 x 1920 portrait video, but can only export in the 600 x 1080 you mentioned. 4K doesn't show.

Thank you so much man! This is exactly what I needed to make my YouTube Shorts!!

Genius, Gary. Thanks so much; in addition for keeping it so lean, to the point, minimal explanation. So easy to follow and replicate your steps.

Brilliant! Really clear and easy to follow. I can now use my vertical camcorder clips on Twitter! Thank you!

This tip is amazing !! I just tested it. And it works perfectly with the iphone, ipad, and ultrawide format (21: 9). It is not possible to choose the video format, but if you place any video / photo on the timeline the APP automatically sets the standard format (and also the resolution). Thank you so much. ❤️ 🙏🏼 🇧🇷

I wished this worked for me, but I'm still getting the same ratio when I create an App Preview.

DUDE! YES! I can't even begin to express how useful this is.
  • Mannn thank you SO much! As a musician doing social media content I always need to sync my recorded audio to video but landscape orientation is useless for social media! This a god send, thanks!

Such an awesome and concise explanation! Thanks!

This was super helpful! It was frustrating me for weeks because I couldn't control the aspect ratio. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Wow!! This was so helpful! I've been editing vertical videos on my iphone on different apps, but like to edit on my macbook pro so much better!!! I've watched a lot of your videos recently and have found them so helpful. Thanks so much!!

iMovie should get a clue by now and have a simple one tab solution by now. Thanks for the video my friend. Very helpful.

I just spent several days making a compilation video for my son's first birthday. When I went to export it, I realized it was in horizontal format (despite about 90% of the clips being vertical). I foolishly assumed there'd just be an export option in iMovie that would allow me to export vertically, but NOPE. At that point I thought I was totally screwed and would have to start from scratch, but then I found your video and it totally saved the day! I was able to start a new App Preview project and copied and pasted all of the clips from my horizontal project timeline into the new vertical one. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank you for this! Note: When I opened a new App Preview, but the first clip I dragged in was horizontal, the rest of the project became horizontal. So just to be safe I'll be dragging in vertical videos into the project before anything else.
