Boston Celtics defense shuts down Miami Heat in Game 3 win

Published 2024-04-27
The Celtics dominated Game 3 with their defense, holding Miami to only 84 points and keeping them from getting anything substantial from the 3-point line. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into the big bounce-back game for Boston, how their defense dominated, how Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White were able to supplement Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and more.

If the Celtics play good defence every single game, they’d be almost impossible to beat in a 7 game series. Hopefully they don’t let up.

Dominate win start to finish proud of how our guys responded after a loss. Go Celtics ☘️🏆☘️
  • @tatt4music
They ignored the Heats dirty play. They shared the ball and the defense was amazing. Every game guys every game !!

GG Celtics. Two more for a win at home in the Garden! "Gentlemen's Sweep"

I love that they didn’t over help on bam this game. He’s a good player but he’s a hesitant volume shooter and you saw that play out as the game went on more importantly, when bam is playing 1 v1 he’s not screening and causing off ball havoc, which is such s key component to the heat offense

John is continuing his journey to slowly come around to playoff Pritchard lol😂. The Celtics got 11 threes shot 32% and were up 20 most all of the game. Nice to see a win like this one.

I loved the way the team rebounded today. They play so well with their backs against the wall! It's been a theme the last several postseasons. They need to always maintain the mindset of "We're down 0-2 in the series" Great win ☘️

It’s the next two games that will tell us if this team, specifically the players, have finally learned to fully respect their opponent every night, be the more desperate team, and play every game like it’s must win. I got faith in these guys, but this is something I need to see to feel like that faith is being rewarded.

A little defense goes a long way. Kristaps looked much better tonight and despite Holiday only taking like 5 shots he still impacted the game with good distribution & defense. And DWhite was as solid as ever. But the guy who really was the spark tonight was Pritchard. He was aggressive on both ends and really brought great energy. It was satisfying to hear Spoelstra say that we “bullied” them and that we were the more physical team. Celts could’ve easily been distracted by the antics/dirty play of Adebayo & Herro but they stuck to the game plan for the most part. Thanks John ☘️🔒

Game 2 had me shook, but not because I thought it was because of something stupid like the heat "owning" Boston (after getting swept in the regular season and a tatum injury away from a fabled reverse sweep last year). It was literally because I had seen this movie before. I vividly remember watching last years ECF series saying the words "WTF they are literally hitting EVERYTHING". So when I saw it again, and recognized why it was happening ("dare shots") and hearing that 37 of the 43 shots Miami took behind the arc were either "open" or "wide open". It cost them the series last year allowing them to shot like that (before game 3 Miami hit more than 50%of their 3s against Boston 4 of the last 9 games), so if you do the math. They did it in game 2. They didn't do it in the regular season, which means this previous 3 times were in the ECF. So, I had to see game 3 before judging. I'm comfortable with saying Boston SHOULD win in 5, but I imagine Miami will come out super physical, and with tons of energy for those 50-50 balls that Boston beat them to today. But if Boston plays like a 1 seed and Miami like an 8 seed, it'll be fine. I just hope they understand that is that is the intensity and level of play required to win a championship

I loved the passing in this game by the Celitcs, especially Kristaps passing from around the free throw line. Also Tatum's Rondo-esque pass to White (I think it was White) cutting on the baseline was a thing of beauty.
  • @JMarctt
Great bounce back win. Let’s keep it up. One game at a time. Keep it measured and reasonably humble John
  • @ortsacerdi1423
Finally they treat Kaleb as a shooter and guarded by Holiday Brown and Tatum
  • Honestly, when people say things like “the Nuggets did this, they took care of business, why can’t we?” my response is well why don’t you go be a fan of the Nuggets? Every team has their own journey. We can’t control what the Nuggets or any other team is gonna do. So the comparison trap only serves to enhance feelings of inadequacy. It’s pointless.
