This is the all-new Toyota BZ4X!

It’s Toyota’s first purpose-built electric car, and Mat’s on hand to find out whether it has what it takes to compete with class leaders such as the VW ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron & Kia EV6!

So let’s take a closer look. For starters, the BZ4X looks pretty stylish at first, with a sloping roof and full-length light bar at the back, through to some pretty smart chrome panelling at the front. However, on closer inspection, there’s quite a bit of plastic cladding across the car, including the rear bumper and around the wheel arches - not what you’d normally expect from a top-of-the-range model!

Thankfully, the interior is pretty impressive. The model we have here has a large infotainment screen up front, and the cabin generally has a bit of a futuristic feel to it.

You can get the BZ4X as either a front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Both models come with a 71kWh battery pack, while the largest claimed range you can achieve is in the front-wheel-drive edition, at 317 miles. In terms of power, the four-wheel-drive model has the upper hand, at 218hp.

The starting price of this all-new Toyota is £42,000. But do you think it could sway you away from other more established class leaders? You’ll have to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

  • Always love the reviews Matt does on this channel, but does anyone else ever think, what is the sound system in the car like? Would love a quick mention on whether the speakers are good or tinny etc.

Fun fact, every car in Japan (maybe some other countries too) beep like that when in reverse gear
  • @popstars4444
Your videos are always great but the editing is really sharp on this one. Big improvement. Well done.
  • For Toyota it was shocking to hear of a recall already because the wheels might fall off. Yikes.

Don't know about cars but I got a pretty good knowledge about how durable is galaxy fold after watching matt's videos🤣
  • @Dqtube
If it had been introduced in 2018 then it would have been great, but now the Korean offerings are slightly better.
  • @Nomad243
I've been enjoying your car reviews Mat, I love the humor that you have like at 3:58, just the way you say " that's less than perfect", I laughed way more than I needed to 🤣
  • @bored-old-man
    I'm glad I ordered a Kia EV6 and didn't wait for this.
  • @rickywinataa
Lower model of cars in japan domestic market would get sold without any infotaiment, which is why generally the car settings are in the speedometer instead of infotaiment
  • @theAquillo
Wow I was really excited for this car to be an overwhelming must buy EV. But I am a bit disappointed at the downsides that you mentioned Matt, some of them like controlling the menu and the rear cam quality, I was expecting to be flawless. Agree with the ‘shortlist’ verdict.

The back up BEEP was originally installed in the PRIUS. Its for people that are new to Hybrid or EV's that may not know they put the car in Reverse! Although, this is an item you can have your dealership change to ONE BEEP, just as you put it in reverse it will beep once and that's it.
  • 18 inch tires are perfect. Much more comfortable, and much less risk of damaging the alloy wheels.
  • @aaaa-ig6sc
They raised the price just after this was filmed by a couple of grand it's now almost £44k starting. Going to sell as well as the UX 300e that flopped
  • @yzhang9265
Thanks for the review Matt. 41k GBP for a compact EV is still a challenge : )
  • @jace888au
I’m so glad you check whether a galaxy fold fits. Wireless charging in some cars is moot if I can’t fit my phone in!
  • @JSmith73
Awesome review. Definitely reached a level where zero effs need to be given to holding back on honesty!
  • @borisdemelo
3:07 being able to change those settings quickly without taking your hands off the steering wheel is a good thing. The reason people typically don’t change those things while driving is because it’s in the touchscreen in other cars.
  • @matdob7677
"I'm sure that is perfectly safe" Oh Matt, you crack me up. 😆
