Earlier this month, News 5 Investigates aired the story of a disabled veteran's family who was forced to stay in a hotel for months while squatters lived in their condo, rent free. The family now has their home back but inside, there was nothing but trash and a few items like a sleeping mat left behind.

  • They need to sue the police dept and court system for not being up on the current laws.
  • I can't believe someone can just steal your house in this country.

The first story brought anger, and this one brought tears to my eyes.

Shame on law enforcement for not knowing and enforcing the laws. This family could have been spared so much hardship had they done their job. Thankfully, the community stepped up.

My heart goes out to this family, the kind gentlemen who donated their furniture, and the news station❤. This country needs to fix this legal law to steal homes. This squatters rights and Adverse posession pandemic needs to be addressed by our new governments staff.

What a great story that never would’ve been heard if it wasn’t for this reporter who cared enough to follow through. We need more people like all of these involved helping each other....

Thank you to Thomas and Ross Auction, The Food Bank and the New Channel for their generosity. Now, if Walmart’s would pitch in, that would be really nice. Setting up a Go Fund Me Account would have been great too.

Im so happy to hear this! Those squatters will never be able to rent or get a job again. Keep showing their faces!

Even the toughest people had to get a few tears at the story's ending

What about a cleaning service or maid brigade? What about new carpet and flooring?! How about a new refrigerator? A new sink and disposal? Material foods are needed yes but also safety and functioning infrastructure. No contracting firm to help with carpet and flooring, locks and lighting? No HOA or Condo Association helping out?

Local businesses helping their community! Just wonderful!

What happened to this family was horrific and made worse during a pandemic. This shows how much good people have in their hearts and what a difference we can make in each other’s lives.
