Homestead reality vs fantasy

In my experience, the pretty dress - barefoot frolicking and 2 hour slow mornings is not happening. For one thing there's watering to be done before the heat of the day gets going and all the water evaporates before it does any good. Then there's weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, tying up tomato vines onto supports, treating for pests and then inside it's hours of processing fresh food into things to put in canning jars or the dehydrator. I'm very familiar with the sweat sting in my eyes, the grit between my teeth, and just being a hot, sweaty, stinky mess by the end of the day, if not sooner. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, either that or we're both way off!
