It took me a really long while to write the script for this video without sounding... oppressive. If I still end up offending people, I'm truly sorry. I didn't mean any harm.

I like that Cyrus give such Great criticism. He not only calls out luz's recklessness but also explains the importance of the moral. Don't worry Cyrus, luz will get better and better as episodes go by.

6:36 Actually this does get explained in later episodes. Luz’s mother, Camila is a vet. So Luz most likely got them from her mother’s veterinary clinic.

Cyrus finally decided to watch good shows congrats to him

I binged the entire Owl House for the last month. It’s safe to say MLB isn’t compared to how awesome this show is.
  • Luz is a bit over energetic and doesn't think things through right away. But unlike Marinette. Luz gets a lot of character development. And it's done so well. I promise you Cyrus. It won't disappoint. ^^

Here is a fun character analysis... Luz in season 1 episode 1 is lowkey on the same path Belos was on, but when she came to the boiling isles she learned and grew out of those ways Because deep down Belos and Luz are not the same, they just shared one thing: They wanted to be the hero

After suffering through Miraculous Ladybug, it’s such a breath of fresh air to watch something actually good, like The Owl House.

Tbh season 1 was kinda bumpy and had its.. moments.. but the finale honestly got me in tears a-bit- season 1 is mostly to get to know the characters a bit. But trust me season 2 REALLY starts to get better. Also there is a HUGE plotwist in season 2 B. And about luz's character she get A LOT mature in season 3. There are crazy character development in every character in the show. Especially Amity.
  • Not related but there's a little fun fact about each titles of the episodes of the first season: If you pick the first letters to all 19 titles, it's forming a message. For S1 it says "a witch loses a true way". (it's the same for S2 and 3, but I will not say it for the moment).
  • Yup, this first episode nearly put me off the show: the message was a bit too on the nose, and Luz's recklessness was objectively concerning. Luckily, a friend assured me that it got better and I should give it a second chance ^^ From what I've heard (?) this kind of thing often happens with pilot episodes, and it's usually because the creators are more focused on selling the show to the producers than on the narrative they want to develop. In The Owl's House case, I think they made a great job of addressing the issues raised by the first episode: I especially liked how they gradually reveal to the viewer that first episode Luz was suffering from a lot of stress derived from the loss of her father and rejection from her peers, which explains her more extreme shenanigans.
  • I'm agressively looking forward to seeing all of these videos, god I hope you enjoy Owl House as much as I did because it'll be a hell of a breath of fresh air to see you actually talk about a GOOD show for once.
  • I won’t spoil nothing but the series elaborates more on Luz’s actions and want for attention within the first episode later in the series, and I think they give a pretty good explanation for it. I will say that the first episode is not the best establishment for a character, but it makes it better on rewatches. I’ve always thought that the first episode is weirdly one of the weakest. I would disagree on the intro and outro showing characters that haven’t appeared though, for me personally it fosters curiosity on who they might be and want to continue watching.

Yeah, season 1A is a bit rough around the edges Still a 6/10 though
  • @olleselin
I think it was good opening episode. It very well introduces Luz and establishes her being an outcast at School.
  • @brodypl5804
I'd say this episode is pretty okay. 7.5/10. The characters are really fun. Also, I'm pretty sure Luz is Dominican or Puerto Rican or both or something. But I may be wrong. Can't wait for you to see more 👍
  • Luz is a great protagonist, but I agree with you, the first episode doesn't represent 100% who Luz really is. her actions in the first episode are not the best, and many fans of the show agree that this is one of the worst episodes of the show next to "once apon a swap", the first season is definitely the weakest and slowest, and Luz still there's a lot to learn. in conclusion, Luz is terrible in this episode and the message is inconsistent!
  • Honestly Cyrus I never put that much thought it the first episode with what the show was trying to teach and honestly I got to say i actually agree with you on that.We are aware that Luz can be dumb and sometimes naive but the writer kinda already went to far by showing us images of kids getting attacked by snakes and spiders which in itself makes Luz's message seem kinda shallow.Yes I understand what it was going for but I personally believe that Uncle Grandpas message about embracing the weird actually worked to the shows favor instead of it getting contradicted when peoples lives were in danger.
  • I think the first episode is mainly to just let you know about the characters (well mainly Luz)
