*jeb bush*....Please Clap

Aside from the basement studio now looking like snuff films are made inside of it, the big announcement is that Nate's favorite band is back. Kings of Leon have released their 9th studio album, "Can We Please Have Fun"

When the singles "Mustang" and "Nothing to Do" were released with vibes reminiscent of the older, more rockin Kings of Leon era, this new album felt like it could be the return to form that we (nate) have wanted to years.

Unfortunately, its still not what we (nate) hoped for. Yes, an itch has been scratched, but was it scratched hard enough? Are Kings of Leon still addicted to being boring? They're for sure addicted to reverb, so the evidence is there.

IMQB SCORE: 5.6/10 - down the middle yeah, whatever

The album is actually their 4th best according to both critics and users on AOTY. It’s better than the last few for sure. As a longtime KOL fan I think it’s somewhere in the middle of their discography.

Kings of Leon hate comes from indie rockers thinking “sex is on fire” is too pop. Now people just say they are boring and too pop.
  • @dylanflacobell
huge KOL fan here and oh man this video made me so fucking mad. subscribed.
  • @Josephsoto221
This album was genuinely mid, but damn “when you see yourself” is genuinely to me, their best album, it’s much more low key and much more of a slow burn but it’s insanely beautiful, and still has sick moments like “echoing”

Overall it's a decent record. I wish it was all in the spirit of »Mustang, Nothing to do and Seen« but I guess they have to please old and new fans. That’s why they have this weird heterogenic mixture of different songs since the WALLS album. Their last record »When you see yourself« was kind of more chill but at least it felt homogenic. In the end, they wanna sell some records, I guess.

saw KOL when there second album had just released, which if there was a time to see them. playing their first 2 albums and then saw them next when their 4th, Only by Night, I knew then which was pretty long ago now, the old Kings will never return.
  • Best album they've done since Come Around Sundown which is my favorite and their best IHMO. The sound on this album is like a bridge between their first 2 albums and Because of the Times and Only by the Night. It sounds great. The first 3 tracks are sensational. Split Screen and Ease Me On are great and some of the best songs they've done. 4 star album at least. It's a bit better than WALLS which gets generic at times although still good. I'd put it 4th behind 1) Come Around Sundown 2) Because of the Times 3) Youth and Young Manhood
  • When You See Yourself is literally in their top 3 albums. Youth & Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and When You See Yourself is their 3 best albums and I am an EXTREME fan and have listened to every album multiple times. You should give it a re-listen.

I’ve been a huge kings of Leon fan ever since aha shake. And man, I completely agree with almost everything you guys said. It’s crazy because every time they release a new album I’m like, “this one is going to be the one! Their back with this one!” And then I hear it and I’m like, “oh.”
  • @27shocking
Love the album but its very serious and a lot of Earworm songs that take multiple listens to appreciate
  • @Dunkengeorge
You can’t just have 12 rockers guys. I really enjoyed this album. Because of the times had a lot of slow songs too, go back and listen to it properly. It’s so boring listening to reviewer’s say the same stuff, oh it’s not as good as the first three albums. Do some research!!
  • @worldwidewey
The most you listen to it, the most you realize is a mid work. I already get bored of it and doesn’t past a week that was released.

The NFTs came with limited edition vinyls, those were quite cheap, around 60$. There were some other NFTs that were auctioned for few dozen thousands but they were special privilege tokens, like VIP tickets for all tours and meals with the band. Also, songs like Cold Desert, Manhattan, Closer, Pyro, Beautiful War, Pickup Truck, 100000 People are “shitty”? Come on. The latest album is below average, but it has hidden gems like Seen.
  • KOL fan, fell in love with them when they came out with YAYM - I would expect this kind of review from a bunch of men. sigh
  • Why did they call it, can we please have fun? KOL i would love to have fun but y'all have not been that entertaining for a while. This still sounded bored and tired, i know when you get old you do less things but damn KOL. The last 2 albums they released I fell asleep trying to listen to them all the way through. This hurts cus they were my fav band for the longest but after Somebody they have been doing a cleaner radio friendly sound.

Great review, and refreshingly honest after seeing so many fans lap this one up. You're right, Jared has definitely been carrying this band with his heavy bass skills. This album is unfortunately very bland. I expected more after their last mediocre album (especially after all the hype from Caleb). Not very memorable, edgy, groovy, rootsy. Very little guitar solos, hardly any vocal harmonising (which is a shame as Nathan can clearly sing). Come on KOL, you can do better than this... Can We Please Move On?

Been a Kol fan since 2006. I even got my mom into them. Her favorite song is on call. But anyways……… this album. Is forgettable 2.2/5
