New to fighting games and can't get used to playing on an arcade stick? Maybe you prefer the precision and accuracy of button based controllers like a playstation Dualshock 4 pad or a PC Gaming Keyboard! If this sounds like you, then the "Hit Box" may well be the perfect balance for you!

I'd only tried a friend's homemade DIY "hit box" for about 2 minutes so this was my first chance to try one out properly with instructions! I also play on MixBox so I'm used to controlling games with buttons but I've never used a thumb button to jump.

What do you think of the Hit Box? Interested in picking one up? Would you pick this over a pad or an arcade stick? Comment below!!

Having played the piano my whole life, the Hitbox feels incredible.
  • We're all amazed at what you were able to accomplish with a single camera, no mics and no external lighting. Impressive stuff. Thanks for giving the Hit Box a fair shake.

This happened to me at the first Evo I went to in 2018. Same guy taught me how to use it and I bought one on the spot

I remember when I switched to keyboard just to play simple mvc2 on my laptop in class, made me notice how much better keys are for fighting games so it's nice they made that

That kind of control had already existed in some arcades before where Joy Sticks were replaced with buttons, it was hard playing tekken 2 when you try it.

Since forever I've been a pad player and I got a Hitbox for my birthday (thanks babe!) and words cannot describe how much I am loving it. It brought a freshness to my gameplay (and playstyle) that I never really had nor didn't even realized it was even missing in the first place. I understood that the instrument has much to partake in your performance and enjoyment as much as your skill. I totally recommend if you can pass the (kinda) heavy learning curve!

Hmmm. This is an interesting idea sure. They basically reomoved unneded button from keyboard and made the leftover bigger. The obvious problem with this should be the differenece in hand size. For comfortable play the thumb jump button should be adjucted individually. Either with rail mechanism or by buidling custom top panel.

I just ordered mine, moving from an arcade stick and I'm really excited to try one.

I went to Evo Japan 2020 and to the Hit box booth to try the Smashbox. From going from Pad to box was like learning another language. But I definitely want to learn how to use it!

"Paganini would love this controller" why is nobody commenting on that? It put a huge smile on my face
  • I played piano for 3 years when I was younger and this feels so similar to that. I’ve always used keyboard for this reason. Now finally theres an option that has a great price and isn’t a keyboard.

I use a custom hitbox as my fighting stick (I found the official hitbox to be too small for my hands - especially the space between the buttons and the bottom edge, where your palms rest), and it was a game changer for me. I found that it was impossible for me to enter commands consistently on a gamepad, so I'd switched to a fighting stick, and while that was much better (especially for the non-directional buttons), I was having too much trouble with a number of the directional commands (e.g. quarter and half circles were really hard). So, I tried out the hitbox, and it was a big improvement. The only thing that I'd consider worse about the hitbox is that diagonals are a bit harder, because you have to press two buttons at once, which can cause problems if you manage to press one faster than the other, whereas with a stick, you don't have that problem. But overall, I've found the hitbox to be way easier to use, and I'd highly recommend it.

In SF V the diagonal inputs are not really important to input, but how about other fighting games especially older ones like maybe king of fighters 97? I find it harder to perform QCF/B & HCF/B without really hitting the diagonals on my fight board in KoF 97.
