Abandoned City. The Power Is Still ON. Adventure #26

Published 2017-07-31
This was one of the funnest adventures I have ever been on. The city of Kitsault was built in 1979 to house the workers and families of the near by Molybdenum mine. However in 1982 the price of molybdenum plummeted and the city was abandoned in 1983. It has then been bought and is preserved by a small team of caretaker but has mostly sat vacant from the day the last resident left. The city was built to house 1200 residents and offered restaurants, a pool, curling rink, movie theatre, bar, bank, mall, rec hall, school and all of the essentials for a community. I could spend days exploring this unique town but I was pretty limited in time due to the extensive trip just to get to this city. All in all it was an incredible adventure.

I lived here for two years. My memories are so great there was always something to do and it was the best place ever for playing. A lot of the houses were empty and we would sneak in and play inside. Most of the time though we had the greatest outdoor adventures. Once a month I’d take my allowance and go to the “mall” restaurant and have a hamburger, fries and a Shirley temple. Oh how I miss those days! Oh and I can’t forget the bear traps all over town. While on recess or lunch If we heard the whistle blow three times we knew we had to stop playing and line up to go back inside because there was a bear nearby.
  • Very nice to see the town hasn't been vandalized. Every window was intact! Beautiful scenery and definitely late 70's-early 80's decor. Would be fascinating to visit and see if it's still as is in this video.

This has got to be the most unique abandoned town videos I've seen, amazing town, 40 years abandoned and in that weather...well built. ❤

Such a surreal video, a town “abandoned” for 40 years in really pristine condition. Almost a post apocalyptic feeling. The carpet in the houses looks better than in my house!
  • Im so glad no one has vandalized this place. If you're watching please don't vandalize places like this. Just like it is it retains an original creepy trapped in time feel. It's so hard to come by a place with this look and feel.

The power being on made me wonder until I saw the cut grass around the first building you entered, and the relatively dust-free and clean state of the houses. Even an empty house would have more dust in it after all that time. The has to be some sort of caretaker(s) looking after the town, as shown also by the cleanliness and the way all the school books were so clean too. The roads were also clear of leaves and debris, and there was a fallen tree cut through for access. Great video, would love to visit there myself one day. UPDATE: The town is now owned by a businessman and the road is blocked off but with a notice where you can visit the town with a guide to see the hospital, library and some of the other buildings, preserving the beautiful state of all buildings and surroundings. This may answer the question I asked above regarding cut grass and general cleanliness of the area.

It kills me to see perfectly good buildings going unused. There must be another way to bring money to the town.
  • I’ve been there! Was there in 1991. We actually got our modular home from there when some family bought 52 of the modular homes to resell and haul them out. It was such a weird feeling to drive so far out in the middle of nowhere and then enter into this little town. The caretaker was still there then. It was so cool to come across your video!

Being abandoned for 38 years, it’s surprisingly clean and move in ready, wow, never seen an Urbex vid like this, amazingly nice!!

I lived there for 14 months.  Did the bunk house then moved to the apartments shown in the first few minutes after you got there in the video.  Pretty cool seeing it again.

I was there as a little kid when the houses were being taken off the foundation. I lived around 10 years in one of those houses after it had been moved to Prince George.
  • I remember working for a controls company and I got the chance to work in the Kitsult town for a couple of days, back in 2000. When I got there it was taken care of by a nice little couple and they had me sleep in one of the abandoned homes. That was the freaky part. Never know how quiet and dark places can get. Anyway love your channel, im trying to watch all of them. I love history. You need a metal detector, the things you could find!

There was a man who bought the town a few years back and has been trying to restore the town and make it a place for scientist and artist to come and work.

You need to quit with the quick camera moment, also, need to keep the camera pointed forward and not at the ground, abandoned ground looks the same as non abandoned ground.
  • Greetings from Minnesota! I grew up in a home built in 79/80. The interiors of these building remind me of my childhood from the wood paneling on the walls to the linoleum kitchen floors.

Isn't it lovely when a place is too far away for vandals to get to, how well preserved things can stay. The buildings were built far enough away from the surrounding trees that nature hasn't invaded yet. This must be getting maintained to some extent for the power still to be live. I'm surprised that some "Back-to-Nature" community hasn't taken it over and made a go of getting away from it all: there's plenty of hunting and fishing and good land to survive on, unless it's owned and guarded by the Government or some company with something in mind for the future. It would make a great holiday resort for sports people, nature enthusiasts or wild life enthusiasts. Amazing that it's abandoned, just sitting like a modernish time capsule. Wonderful.

Pretty cool to see everything still in great shape! The apartments at the start are nicer than some I've rented 30 years ago. The first house, heck, I'd move into that today because it was so nice and clean inside.
