The Jascon 4 tug capsized on May 26, 2013 off the coast of Nigeria with only one survivor from 12 people on board. Now, six months on from the accident, incredible footage has emerged showing the moment the ship's cook was rescued from an air bubble on the ship, two days after the ship capsized. From 20 seconds a member of the DCN Diving rescue team exclaims as the sole survivor's hand comes into view, Okene Harrison was visibly shaken, but alive.

Imagine knowing with 99,5% certainty that you are going to die slowly in that air pocket down there, and then suddenly your rescuer turns up. It must be like being reborn.

He vowed to never go to the ocean again but eventually became a certified diver and was certified by the very guy that rescued him. And he said he feels that he will rescue someone else in a similar situation some day

    He was so calm...it's commendable

The reason the diver's voice is so high pitched is because of the air mixture (trimix im pretty sure is the name) they're breathing, which contains helium. Edit: the mixture is called nitrox

Can't imagine what the diver thought when the hand touched his diving helmet then the guy talking in the control room is like "OH okay another one it's a body suddenly it moved again "alive". Harrison has his own YT channel named Harrison Odjegba Okene he also now is a IMCA Class Two Commercial Air Diver

  • They need a movie on this! not as difficult as the cave rescue in thailand but this guy was in the ocean ! In a sunken ship! He said he heard sharks thrashing at night eating the bodies

This is an absolute nightmare, followed by the most surreal sequence of events for everyone involved. The roller-coaster of emotions for that man during those 60+ hours is unfathomable.
  • This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. You blokes did an amazing job.

First time I've ever seen this and the voice of that man must have sounded like an angel. Gives me faith in humanity again. I read somewhere else that if they had not had the bell he probably wouldn't have survived.
