The news that hit the industry in July 2021 holds huge significance for the electric car industry. Quantumscape incidentally is a partner of Volkswagen who has also entered the electric car segment with the ID.4 EV. It has been so successful; it is also the winner of the 2021 World Car of the Year Award. Now, most electric vehicles have a range of around 300 miles and it takes almost an hour to recharge the battery pack. Within just ten years, the battery pack may lose a third of its capacity which could then make it a potential risk given the fact it contains flammable material. But Quantumscape's new ten-cell battery is all set to change all that.
80 percent more power than conventional lithium-ion batteries
The benefits of solid-state lithium batteries
It isn’t just the energy density and shorter charge time that makes Quantumscape’s new battery a real breakthrough. There is much more. It is safer and has a longer life than conventional batteries. Quantumscape has now confidently revealed that its latest product addresses every factor of high energy density, fast-charging capability, long life, safety and realistic operating temperature are guaranteed. The absence of the anode and materials is further expected to bring the coast of batteries further.
As thin as a playing card
It gets even better, the Quantumscape battery is just the size and thickness of a playing card. It has a positive terminal made of nickel manganese cobalt oxide, or NMC, common chemistry in EV batteries today. Venkat Viswanathan, a mechanical engineer and technical advisor to Quantumscape explained how the anode free design was extremely important since it was the only way lithium-metal batteries can be manufactured today with current manufacturing facilities.

QS are onto a real game changer here. What really encourages me is the co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery and winner of the 2019 Nobel prize in chemistry, Dr. Stan Whittingham saying the data “holds the potential to transform the industry”. I’m holding the stock to pay for my sons college fees by 2024.
  • @deecee1522
If successful, QS will have a better battery than Tesla. Porsche and Audi could move ahead of Tesla in range and performance.
  • I had expected a more in-depth technical explanation, e.g. why these batteries have not left the laboratory phase.
  • @Bli8
I'll be surprised if QS can put this out in production within 5 years
  • Very promising,I think they are on to something here,I better hurry up and invest
  • @newsgeekus1216
While I am extremely excite by this, but you have to keep this in perspective. They need to continue to refine the layering process, figure out how to mass produce this and get to economies of scale. So probably a 2030 thing. But even then, transformational.
  • I'd like to see you get a million miles on an ice , electric motor and batteries will out last the ice car jands down
  • @dyworking
They are still 3 years away from commercial mass production. They need over a billion dollars to construct a gigafactory and mass produce at cheap prices while maintaining high quality batteries. Stock will tread lower. Lots of time to buy in. Be patient.
  • @WhiteRaven640
This will only be good if they can get it out of lab and scale it up for production otherwise it’s just more empty promises.
  • @Myrslokstok
Well induction chargers at redlights and intersections would be sweet.
  • @b1denison
This sounds like very exciting news! But can’t help but wonder how the price comparisons will be?
  • @jashton8710
The possibility of my e-scooter having a range of over 200 kms is very exciting. Come on QS, let's get this to market, some of us are getting old here.
  • @RexAlfieLee
Let's see production lines occurring first.
  • Lets see them get to volume production at a price point that makes them competitive against the current technology. Maybe they will only find us in the aviation market to start with, where the energy density would be more valuable. Current LFP tech allows 5000+ cycle life, with reasonable range and high charging rates. For the majority the cost savings will win out.

What about my ebike I want more range, I need to be able to ride to Vegas
