How to change lanes while driving is one of the basic skills to pass the Road Test
Hello guys, welcome back to Driving TV in todays video we will be showing how to change lanes safely and determining the gap. We will show you step by step everything you need to know to change lanes properly. This is one of the skill you will have to demonstrate on your road test.

Keep in mind that when changing lanes, the most important thing is to wait until there is a clear gap in the traffic. Then move safely and smoothly into the center of the desired lane, while maintaining your space in the flow of traffic so that no other vehicle is forced to slow down, speed up, or change lanes to avoid collision.

When you change lanes, follow these steps:

Turn on your signal.
Check your mirrors.
Check your blind spot by looking over your shoulder.
If it is safe, change lanes.
Turn off your signal after completing the lane change.

  • I just hate those cars that purposely speed up just when you're about to change lanes.
  • @carissa5977
I’m so scared changing lanes…I can’t process anything so quickly. I struggle with depth perception too. My mom teaches me but she tries to rush me into it.
  • @cuygor7132
I’ve learned more about driving from YouTube than a $300 driving course

my driving instructor tells me to look over my shoulder but i literally can’t my anxiety says no 😭😭

Refresh . If you can see the entire car in side mirror , it means you have enough space to change over slowly , if you see half the car in side mirror it means they are too close and you should let them pass . And change after them if no other cars are behind .

I’m driving for the first time alone on a road with multiple lanes and heavy traffic and this video made me more confident👍🏻
  • I went to driving school and the instructors had the habit of always telling me when to switch lanes so now it’s become a problem ..this video is a life saver …literally!!!!
  • @gabib4966
I’m watchin this bc I literally got honked at by everyone on the road like 5 minutes ago bc of how I change lanes
  • Bruh, I didn’t know that when you see the full car means it’s far enough! Thank you!
  • @tiruttama
Wow!! I've been practicing driving with an instructor for a few months already with no understanding of safe lane change. I never could figure out how far the next car is and when should I do it. After watching this video, I definitely feel confident.. thank you so much
  • @ryry9062
My test is in 2 hours!!!wish me luck
  • I watched this video many times before the road test. I learned to judge whether it is safe to change lanes based on the speed and distance of the following cars. I passed the road test today. Thank you.
  • @Pokemongx01
my driver teacher wanted me to merge so many times when I only have 2 hours experience on the road. It's actually very difficult to merge compared to just turning
  • @femme-inist
I remember my first time ever driving on the highway, I was so nervous that I wanted to switch lanes and accidentally switched the windshield on instead of the blinkers 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️ I was all over the road
  • @CydwellFX
I just passed my road test today in Michigan and I just want to let anyone who’s about to do his or her test just make sure you obey the rules of the roads at all time, Stop 🛑 sign come to a complete stop, on merging roads make sure you indicate to move to the other lane and when parking either left or right still indicate on the side you parking in. Especially if you in Michigan practice more Forward and backward parking and your parallel parking. Good luck 👍🏿

Dude I'm 29 and have always been afraid to drive and I'm gonna get my license now and do city driving thank you for the video
  • @rdu239
I absolutely hate it when vehicles purposefully speed up after you signaling properly, they already saw your signal definitely, but for some stupid reason they think anybody changing lane in front of them or cutting their lane is a serious hit on their egos and refuse to yield to adjust their speed. Experienced it lots of times before, and its anxiety inducing to learners
  • @wearykid3351
This video is going to help me a lot, I have to drive with my mom in the car because I have a permit and I’ll get my license in February 20th. But she makes me very anxious on the road which causes me to jerk the wheel when I switch lanes, and today I almost caused an accident bc she was yelling at me, and I was freaking out. Idk why parents scream at their kids when driving, it only distracts us more and puts more frustration and anxiety on us. But hopefully, I’ll ace my test next month !!! :)
  • @sampayne6615
Just practice and you’ll do fine on your test I passed my first time with a 79 and he said I was a good driver I just got points for a few very minor things. The test is really not that bad at all it was way easier then I thought. Seriously I know everyone says it but just relax and be confident it seriously helps and talk to the instructor especially if he/she is a friendly one and you’ll do fine
  • @silvereagle1960
People around here always speedup on you out of spite because they know you have to get over! Need to get a camera to start reporting theme!
